Your Baby Week 21

While this has been an exciting month with lots of new experiences for your baby, it is important to remember there are some foods that should not be given to babies before their first birthday. These foods can cause allergic reactions and serious harm. Some of these foods include:

• Cow's milk - 8 signs of milk allergies
• Chocolate
• Egg whites
• Honey
• Peanuts or any type of nut

Some specialists say it is ok to introduce your kids to the following foods shortly before their birthday, unless there is a history of allergic reaction in your family. As always, check with your doctor to make sure.

• Strawberries
• Wheat
• Citrus fruits and juices
• Tomatoes

Week 21 Milestones

You might be starting to hear more sounds coming from your baby as he learns a little more about communication. Sounds you might hear include "ba-ba", "ga-ga", "ma-ma", and "da-da". There is no rhyme or reason to what sounds your baby will make first, but you should quickly be able to determine what your baby wants by the sounds he makes.

What Might Concern You at 21 Weeks

Would organic foods be better for your baby? With the growing craze of healthier eating and growing availability of organic foods, many parents are starting to make their own baby food or buying organically labeled baby food off the shelves.

What are the drawbacks of this though and what are the pluses. Mainly, organic baby food you buy in the stores is still more expensive than regular jarred baby food. It will burn a hole in your pocket book much faster than plain baby food. However, if you can afford it, organic baby food is much healthier for your baby as it is free of the preservatives and chemicals that have been added to baby food in the past.
