I am the proud mother of a 10 week old boy. I tried desperately to breastfeed but have inverted nipples which made it impossible for my baby to latch on and feed no matter what I tried and trust me, I tried! After the first week of my poor baby not getting much, if anything to eat as well as having the jitters due to lack of food I made the decision to formula feed which was really disappointing. I initially combined expressed breast milk with formula but my breast milk inevitably dried up. It may well be that 'breast is best' but women should not be made to feel so guilty and like such a failure if they physically can't breastfeed. People have been so judgemental about my bottle feeding insinuating that I am a lazy mum who has taken the easy way out which is not true, it would be so much easier to pop baby on breast than having to constantly sterilise bottles and make up feeds, trust me. Constantly justifying my decision to the breastfeeding Nazis is so tiring, am so sick of being made to feel like I'm not doing the best for my baby and articles like yours don't help! Personally I think feeding my baby formula is much better than starving him. I think it is high time mum's like me were given a break!
