It is extremely dangerous and isn't necessary, a baby has a natural gag reflex with shuts off as it gets put under the water. Imagine if someone blew in your face and put you under water, i can imagine you would be pretty upset, all you need to do is prepare your baby by saying, "ready..steady...go... and gently head first submerge and come up.
