BTW lavender oil is safe on babies (as early as newborns), as well as several other oils..From birth to 2 months: Chamomile (both German and Roman), Lavender, Yarrow and Dill are safe essential oils.
From 2 months to 6 months old: Adding to those already listed, you can also include Coriander, Neroli and Mandarin essential oils.
From 6 - 12 months old: Gradually add Grapefruit, Aniseed, Tea Tree and Calendula essential oils.

Petroleum jelly as wall as the typical "baby Oil" should never be used for humans! it is a chemical and very toxic and leads to dry damaged skin. I agree with the above, if you use and EO for babies it should be in much smaller dose, personally I would just not use it for baby's skin.

[...] perhaps his skin is too young and sensitive for some of the chemicals in that lotion: Water, Isopropyl Palmitate, Glycerin, Glyceryl Stearate, Cetyl Alcohol, Stearic Acid, Cetearyl Alcohol, Dimethicone, Mineral Oil, Oleic Acid, Polysorbate 20, Benzyl Alcohol, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Methylparaben, Fragrance, Carbomer, Propylparaben, Xanthan Gum, Pentaerythrityl Tetra-di-t-butyl Hydroxyhydrocinnamate, Red 33. May also contain: Sodium Hydroxide. babies that young don't really *need* lotion for their skin. the natural layer of skin that newborns shed from being submerged in amniotic fluid will go away by itself. if you feel that your baby needs some kind of moisturizer use plain olive oil, or some kind of organic gentle lotion with ingredients that do not contain harmful chemicals.

For the milk and honey lotion. It says it is only good for one week. Does this mean it goes bad, or that you will go through it that fast. I am making all my own soaps, shampoos, toothpaste, detergent, household cleaners and now wanting to make lotion. This recipe seems easy. I need something safe for baby and mom, but something that last longer then a week. Any help please

I agree with many of the other comments--petroleum jelly is not 'green' or natural. Honey should not be used in any way for babies under 12 months and lavender, though not conclusively proven, is linked to estrogenic activity, so again, caution should be exercised with babies. Remember, the skin is the bodies largest organ, so what we put on we put in. Better to rub baby with 100% certified organic olive oil.

The word petroleum should be a good indication that you shouldn't use it at all, let alone on your baby. I plan on trying that recipe with lanolin instead, and bit less E.O. Honey is only dangerous to your baby if it's consumed by him/her, not if it's on their skin. Essential oils are fine for babies if they are diluted properly. I would not put in as much as it says in the recipe. That sounds more like a blend for an adult.

For one thing, petroleum Jelly is a terrible, chemical product, not to use on babies or anyone. Lavender or any EO's are not recommended for babies at all. Their skin is very sensitive and thin. It absorbs everything.
Yes, honey is not recommended for anyone under the age of 1, and if you need an all natural skin soother for a baby, just use pure olive oil.
Mostly, though, babies don't need soap or lotion. Just to be splashed with warm water in a bath and nursed regularly to nurture their skin......

I thought that petroleum jelly was not a natural product or at least it is not as safe or healthy.
I did like the honey and milk lotion. Can I replace the petroleum jelly with something else?
Thank you for your time
