Cramping in Early Pregnancy

Many women get concerned by cramping that they experience in early pregnancy. Some might worry that this is a sign that their pregnancy is not viable and that a miscarriage is on its way. Fortunately, more times than not, that isn’t the case.
Cramping in early pregnancy is common and usually very normal
Some women might feel cramping as soon as seven days after they ovulate. If they are in fact pregnant, then this cramping is called implantation cramping and is the cramping that occurs when the egg attaches itself, or implants, to the uterus. It is not cramping that all women feel, and can be easily unnoticed.
Some women start cramping shortly after they get a positive pregnancy test as their uterus starts preparing to carry a baby for nine months. The uterus is a big organ and as it grows in early pregnancy cramping is expected. If the cramping is constant or too intense for you to handle however it may not be “normal” and you should call your doctor if you feel you need to for reassurance.
Another type of cramping during pregnancy is called round ligament pain
This is cramping that occurs as the muscles under your uterus expand and grow in order to support the weight of your uterus and baby as it grows. This is probably the most complained about cramping in early pregnancy, and one most pregnant women will experience.
Cramping in early pregnancy is usually nothing for a woman to get worried about. Actually you can be comforted by knowing that if minor cramping does occur, then your body is probably preparing as it should to sustain the pregnancy. Cramping can also continue into the second and third trimester as the uterus continues to grow and as the body prepares for labor. But if you ever feel that the cramping is not normal, be sure to call your doctor for advice.

My husband and I are trying to conceive, I noticed about 2 days after intercourse that I have begun having a dull, constant ache (but just barely noticeable) in my stomach. The only time it eases up is when I rest. Is this a normal sign of conception? It’s still too early to tell, but for the past week now it hasn’t gone away. I’m hopeful, but still uncertain of what to look for. It almost feels like pre-menstrual symptoms, but constant and WAY earlier (about 2 weeks earlier) than when I normally begin to have those symptoms before a period and also more constant than what I normally feel at “that time.”

I actually was told yesterday that my pregnancy test is positive but have been experiencing cramping for about a week already. At first the cramps were light as if my period were going to start but now they are uncomfortable. I am very concerned as we have been trying to conceive for 3 years & just last year had a biochemical pregnancy as well. Progesterone is at 17 as of yesterday & I go back for more blood work tomorrow. Anyone have any words for me?

I have just found out that im pregnant and no further along than 4 weeks. I have been cramping slightly throughout the day and more intensely in the evening. It’s not unbareable just discomforting. I have two children before this pregnancy and don’t remember the cramping starting so early on, but every pregnancy truly is different.

Hello I just found out I’m pregnant this past weekend, I’m probably 4 weeks and these last two days I’ve also had cramps. They’re very light cramps and they also come and go. I’ve also experienced minor lower back aches, but luckily the pain is not strong. I still go about my day. I will also drink a bit more water, maybe it’ll help.

My fiancee is just shy of 8 weeks and is having severe crampings and swelling already, and water doesn’t seem to help the situation. If she can’t get to her OB, has anyone else experienced this and can they make any recommendations?

I’m 5 weeks and 2 days pregnant. I’ve had cramping for 5 days, with a little spotting. The spotting has gotten better in the past 2 days. My midwife’s nurse said the spotting could be from implantation. I have a 9 month old daughter and didn’t experience the cramping with her in my first pregnancy. I did have some spotting in my fourth week and ninth week with her. My current cramping is very consistant. I still feel “pregnant”, very hungry and slightly nauseous. I’m wondering if my cramping could be my uterus expanding, like the article states. The water suggestion is a wonderful one. Since I’m still nursing a baby, this might be a real key for me.

This is my first pregnancy and i have been cramping not often but i do, and i work and i have to stand on my feet most of the time, and when i start to cramp i sit down as soon as possible and then it stops is this normal and should i be concerned about it?

I just found out today that I am 3 weeks pregnant, and I have been experiencing HORRIBLE cramping, during the day alot, but especially at night when i lay down, in fact I stayed up crying last night cause the pain hurt so bad. I went to the doctor today and they said things are still too early to tell, but there was no signs of anything bad. This is my second child and I have never experienced this kind of cramping, not even during mentstrual cycles.
Lori says...
I have had 2 kids and with both I experienced very severe cramping (worse than period cramps) right up until the second trimester started. Both of my kids were born full term with no problems, so this kind of cramping must be harmless.

Im going into my fifth week and i too have had some cramping. just little blips throughout the day… but nothing major. this morning however, i woke up and they are constant just in one place. they arent so much pain fuol as they are annoying because like i said its right under my belly button a little to the right just comes and goes every few seconds. i hope it isnt to much to worry about, this is my first and my hubby and i have been trying for almost a year.

I am 7 weeks pregnant and had severe cramping and bleeding. The cramping was triggered by my fibroids so if you have fibroids and are pregnant cramping is likley to happen. It will be intense then start to die down. In the beginning when I was 4 weeks I thougt I was having a miscarraige the pain was unbearable since then it has died down significantly. I was advised to take tylenol from my doctor and it helped me alot. I still have the bleeding I was told it was implantation bleeding but I didn’t think it would last this long. I still feel pregnant, hungry and sick at the same time. Cramping as I have been told is normal and will range in pain. Ask your doctor if you could take tylenol since it is the only pain reliever we can take unless otherwise stated by your doctor. Good luck to all

I am 5 weeks 4 days pregnant and I’m having cramping on my right side. It is worse when I stand up and move around. I’m nervous because this is our 3rd pregnancy after two miscarriages. I’m wondering why it would only be on the right side?
Stacey says...
I am almost 5 weeks pregnant and I, too have had moderate to severe cramps. They seem to get worse at night. I have called my doctor and she said that it is more than likely normal. My HCG levels are doubling like they should, so I am trying not to worry. I am drinking a large glass of water right now!
Roxanne says...
I am 6 weeks pregnant and I too am having cramps off and on even some lower back pain – none last week, back this week and worse at night. I’ve had one miscarriage two months ago. I am waiting for my HCG levels from the Dr. today to offer me some peace of mind. I have done my best to stay positive, but this is very scary.

I am six weeks pregnant and have experienced cramping only on my right side as well. It’s not real bad but I was concerned because I have two children and I didn’t experience cramping like this with either of them. I hope it’s nothing and everything will be just fine.

I have been searching other sites and I found some interesting information on familyresource.com. For those of you like me who have had other pregnancies without cramping and now you are experiencing it, here is some info that was on their website. “Some women who have had more than one child will experience a very strong, shooting pain in their groin/hip area. These pains subside with walking or standing but are very intense when the woman first stands from a lying or sitting position. Many women have asked their doctors what this is only to come away with no concrete answer because the pain varies each time it strikes. What this pain actually is, is the tendon(s) in the groin area. They become weaker with each pregnancy and can cramp strongly. The only way to combat this type of cramping is exercise to strengthen the muscles in this area to compensate for the weakness in the tendons. A lot of walking through the pregnancy will not only help with this cramp, but will also make labor and birth easier in the end.” Also I am experiencing pain on just my right side, near where the ovary is and I learned that you can have ovarian cramping due to changes of hormones in your body. I hope this helps!

Last night I too started to get the cramping I’m 5 weeks. I drink a lot of water throughout the day so I don’t think that’s the issue. It seems like every one on here is 5 weeks or close so I guess it should be normal! This is my second.

Hey everyone, I was supposed to get my period on sunday and now it is saturday it has almost been a week and yet no period. I am 19 and have never been pregnant but I have had sore breasts, and I have had cramping all week long and yet my period still hasn’t come… I know that there is a possibility that I might be pregnant, I haven’t taken the at home pregnancy test yet. Does anyone think that this cramping that I am getting is from pregnancy? Or can you miss your period for a whole month but still have cramping? Please help!

I am about 3 weeks pregnant. this is my second pregnancy, but I lost my first at just 4 weeks. I have been experiencing cramping this time around, and have searched several sites this evening which all say that such cramping is normal during implantaion. reading everyone else’s stories has helped to ease my mind. Thanks ladies, and congrats to you all!

I am 5 weeks along also and have experienced cramping today. I had a miscarriage in May so of course I am very worried, but I am not bleeding. I also have two children and I don’t really remember this early in the pregnancies with them. The pain is mostly in my back and actually gets better when i walk around. I am also much more bloated than I was during my first two pregnancies. I am sure that is because I do have two children already, I’m older now, and I was extremely thin and a little under weight when I was pregnant with them. Now I am a more normal size although I could lose 10-15 pounds-I have to wait now of course. I am 5′6″ at 136 this is the most I have ever weighed except during my pregnancies.

I’m so glad I found this website. I too am about 4weeks. I had my blood test done today, but am waiting for the officical results. I’ve also since Sat. been having pretty strong cramps on the right side and a little under my belly button. I drink alot of water, but I’m scared to death. I’ve had two misscarriage and I feel a little better knowing that others are having the same cramps in the same place. My nerves are a mess. I My God be with you all.

This is my first pregnancy and I don’t know how far along I am. Haven’t gone to the Dr. yet. I took 3 tests on Wed. and they were all positive. I had intercourse with my boyfriend last night and woke up spotting. Now I am also having cramps on my right side but I think I am working myself up because I am reading about eptopic prgnancies. I keep hearing that the spotting is normal as long as It’s not red. I go to the Dr on Thu. but I’m nervous.

It is very much possible that i could be pregnant..but it has only been about 6 or 7 days since I had intercourse and I am having slight cramping as if I am going to start my period but it has never came…I dont know if this cramping could mean I am pregnant since most of you have said you are at least 4 weeks along and it has only been about a week since i ovulated/had intercourse?
Tina says...
Thank goodness for this site. I’ve took 3 pregnancy tests – all have shown negative. I’ve been cramping for way over a week now – it comes and goes. I am nauseated, tired, and my lower back hurts. I truly “feel” pregnant. I think if I am I am no more than about 4 1/2 weeks, so I’m gonna give it a little more time and then try another pregnancy test. THEY ARE BREAKING ME UP!! Lol

I’m about 4 weeks and 5 days and I’ve been cramping a lot. I’m thinking its due to gas. So excusing myself along with water does help.

Hey girls…firstly, congrats to you all…I did two pregnancy tests yesterday and both came out positive. Went to the doc for some blood tests yesterday afternoon and am anxiously waiting for my results. The cramping has been on and off for about two weeks now but is worse at night.. feels like the worst period cramps ever. I agree with the water theory but only found that out by accident. If the blood work comes out positive, this will be my first pregnancy and I am really excited. Thanks for all the input on the cramping, it is kinda a relief knowing its happening to other women and its normal. Peace

I know that I ovulated a week ago and am trying to have a baby. A day or so after sex, I’ve been cramping and it hasn’t stopped since. It feels like my period is coming but I don’t expect my period to come for another 2 weeks. I’m also getting dizzy and light-headed. It’s too early to take a pregnancy test, so I’m waiting and hoping that I am pregnant. I hope this a normal sign of pregnancy and not my body playing games with me.
Lisa says...
I too, am trying to have a baby (my second) after struggling with infertility for almost 7 years. I would only be almost 4 weeks pregnant, and haven’t tested until tomorrow. I’ve been haveing cramping, lower back pain, sore breasts, and sensitivity to some smells. At times, it feels like my ab muscles are burning (like after sit ups) and it helps to lean back or lay down to take the pressure off. I also can’t button my pants and still be comfortable. It’s hard to stay positive, but this chat helps. I was afraid it meant I wasn’t pregnant. I am keeping my fingers and toes crossed. Good luck to everyone and wishing all happy, healthy pregnancies and babies!

I am 5 weeks and dealing with cramping and low back pain with no bleedingas well. I did not have these symptoms with my 1st child. I am gonna give it one more week and drink more water…if symptoms don’t improve I will go to my dr. and request a ultrasound to rule out etopic pregnancy and view the baby’s heartbeat as it can be seen on ultrasound at 6 weeks. Then that will give me piece of mind and relief…hopefully I can get thru the next week emotionally with just water alone….This is scary!
Sharmay says...
Hey girls, got my results back and I am just over four weeks pregnant. Yay!!!! Cramping is still there but back pain is now adding to the cramping..no bleeding though. Anyone know if this is normal? I’m scared to death of losing this baby… it is already so loved…

I so badly want to get excited, and yet I still try to keep my feet on the ground just in case. I had cramping about 5 days after ovulation for about two and a half days now and at night when I lay on my stomach I feel pressure in my uterus. Also sore breast, frequent urination, and nausea. Could I be imagining this? One and a half weeks untill my period is due. Blessings to all.

WOOOhh!!! im glad I came across this site; Im sure going to sleep better ; ). Ive just tested positive for a home pregnancy test & my doctor cant see me until Tues (5 days). I have been experiencing some mild, yet annoying & very unassuring cramping. I was just starting to freak out since its been coming & going the last 2 days. My best friend had an ectopic pregnancy so her description was always about ‘pain or cramping really bad’, but 4rm what i noticed mostly w/ the women on here is that their really early in pregnancy & the cramps arent too bad. I pretty much know my body, but just the thought of something being ‘wrong’ w/ my 1st pregnancy can really bring the paranoia out. Im still trying to see a dr. much sooner, but @ least I feel a bit more @ peace 2nite. To those on here that says they have terrible & unbearible pain, my advice to you is to see a dr. asap & not take any chances. Good luck to all you Moms & Future Moms!

I tested postive with a pregnancy test and For the past 4 days I have had the worst cramping. Everyone told me that I was 5 1/2 weeks along, and that my condition was bad. I raced to the er and the did the blood test to see if I was and I am. Thee couldn’t see anything on the ultrasound, they think that I am Three weeks along. They also think that they see the gestational sac. Am I and my little one going to be ok? My husband and I have love this baby. We pray that he/she will be healthy.

Hi Ladies,
My husband and I are trying to conceive. I have had two miscarriages over the last year and four monts. The first at 20 weeks, which was a bit devestating and the second at 5 week. I was drawn to this site because I was looking for information about cramping in the beginning of pregnancy. I have been cramping for a few days now as if I am about to start my cycle but my cycle isn’t due for another 2 weeks. Maybe this is the real deal! Also, with the baby that I lost at 20 weeks, I was taking shot of progesteron because my progesterone levels were low and I was instructed to drink plenty of water. I foolowed those directions but unfortunately I still miscarried my baby.
I just want to say Good Happenings for all you ladies trying, hoping and preparing to conceive.

I haven’t seen the doctor yet, but I think I’m 4-5 weeks pregnant. When I first found out I was pregnant, I had light cramps that went away. But then I would wake up with horribly, scary, painful cramps that would last about 20 minutes and then go away. Since this is my 1st, I called the doctor and he said it’s normal as long is it’s all over pain (not just on one side and unbearable) and it’s not constant and that I could take Tylenol. I did and it did the trick. Since then, light cramping during the day and really sore breasts. Also, my sleeping is off since I have to get up at least 3 times to go to the bathroom! I see the doctor on Thursday.

Yesterday i started having dull cramps in my right side (in line with the hip bone and above the pelvis). The pain got worse when standing/walking and lessened with compression and a hot pack. It has subsided today but i can still feel residual discomfort where the pain was. It is not like period pain. My husband and I, have only just started trying this month and brought a maybe baby ovulation tester – according to the tester i started to ovulate Sat/Sun last week. I had cysts on my ovaries in the past and the pain feels similar…Could this be implantation?
Jane says...
Can anyone give me some reassurance. I found out i was pregnant 4 days ago and had a lot of strange feelings in my stomach but today i have had a constant dull pain in my lower pelvic area on the left side. Is this normal?

I am 5-6 weeks. I started about 2 weeks ago with cramps and then they would get more at night. The last two nights I woke up with the worst cramps and I guess they last for 20 mins. My boss who is a family doctor said this is normal but I am going to see my Ob/Gyn tomorrow….
MamaV says...
To answer some of your questions cramping is a very normal part of pregnancy especially in the first trimester. I used to have cramps and everytime I had intercourse in my first trimester I would spot. I was worried but my doctor told me all of it was normal. But I wasn’t convinced and when I left my highly stressful job during my second trimester the frequent migraine and cramps disappeared. So while it is normal these symptoms can be triggered by extremely stressful situations.
That was 5 1/2 yrs ago and now my period is almost 2wks late and I have had cramping sensations in addition to some pain in the ovary region on the right side (just like before). I don’t get the right-side thing either. Don’t feel pregnant although I have been getting nauseous at night and sometimes lightheaded. I don’t have tenderness of my breast but I’ve noticed the “swell” in button-down shirts…..well we will see maybe I’m just paranoid….
Good luck with all your pregnancies.
Nathalia says...
I think I am pregnant as well – maximum 2 weeks. I started having dull cramps in my lower left abdoman yesterday and it has not gone away yet. I spoke to my doctor and he wanted me to come in and have a blood test to see if my “pregnancy hormones” have gone up. If they have then he said he would probably refer me to a early pregnancy clinic where they will monitor your hormone levels to see if they are increasing as they should. “If they are increasing, but not by a lot then it may be an eptopic pregnancy”. I have been told that the typical sign of an eptopic pregancy is having lower abdominal pain on only one side though it can shoot through the whole abodomin as well, you do not necessarily have to be bleeding as well for it to be something serious. So, what I suggest for those of you who have cramps on just one side – call your doctor and say you fear that it might be eptopic, they will then tell you what the best thing for you to do is. They will at the least be able to put your mind at ease. I wish everyone the best!

I’m 5 weeks, experiencing awful pain. No bleeding. The pain is mostly on my right side of lower stomach. This is my first pregnancy. I saw a doc today he said its too early but everythang looked normal. The baby is in my uterus. Does anyone else have very very very bad pain with a good outcome.

I went 2 the doc after taking a home test. My home test was pos, I never got the results from the blood test but my doc did an ultra sound & we saw a small life in the uterus. My doc scared me because I am having brown spotting,it is getting lighter day by day. but I have very mild cramping.
I was wondering if any of you have had a C-section or a tubal surgery & do u also have cramping.
My doc told me he was not sure if I was threatning a miscarrage.
I have to go back in 2 wks to see if they see a heart beat.
My best advice is to u all that are pregnant take prenatal vitamins as soon as possible.
I was reading that taking vitamins can help. Sometimes when pregnant our bodies give us aches & pains when our bodies are lacking.
Right now all though ur stories give me hope, I am afraid I have had ectopics back to back then miscarraiges.
My husband will deploy to Iraq next week & I sure hope this is a healthy pregnancy.

Hi Everyone, I’m about to be 17 and in the end of April I had a miscarriage. I started the pill immediently after that, and have been on it since May,
I am a week late, and am not taking my pill, until I get a home pregnancy test. But i’ve been getting a few, light cramps, like i’m going to start for a few days, and i haven’t.
My breasts are sore and I get lightheaded like last time.
The only thing different is last time before I had a miscarriage, I threw up everyday and almost everynight since I was 1month pregnant, and now that i’m not nauseas i’m worried (even though i dont miss that)
I’m wondering if I should continue to take my pill or wait until i see what my test says.
I’m really scared.
Please help.
Thanks.

Hello! Reading all the comments posted here has made me feel so much better. I too have been having mild cramping since 4 or 5 days after I concieved. It is intermitent and not too uncomfortable, just feels like I’m getting my period (which Is what I thought was happening) but pain came very early, which made me think I was in for a BAD period!! I’m also getting dull lower back pain and the occassional shooting pain in my stomach, not necessarilly the lower part all the time.
After 3 very strongly positive home tests and a visit to the doctor today, it’s confirmed I am 4 weeks and 4 days pregnant! I’m terrified that something may go wrong……but trying to relax and go with the flow!
Good luck and good health to all us future Mummies

I had a miscarriage at 13 weeks and one of the first warning signs was that for several nights, I woke up with painful cramps. I could tell they were not gas pains, they were in the front and low center. I would get up and walk a bit, and after a few minutes the pain would go away. It was a missed miscarriage, so I only heard that I had miscarried because the baby had lost its heartbeat and was measuring too small in a scheduled ultrasound. I had not heard that drinking water could help, but I know I drink too little, so next time I will make sure I drink plenty of water.
How can you be 3 weeks pregnant? The thing has not even implanted yet!

I am 11 weeks pregnant, and I experienced cramping almost daily from week 4 to about week 9. In the early weeks I thought for sure I was getting my period, I felt exactly the same as PMS cramps. Sometimes the cramps were so bad I would wake up in pain in the middle of the night, doubled over. These episodes would last about 5-10 minutes, and then they were gone. I was very worried, but the doctor said this was normal, as long as there was no bleeding, which I have not yet experienced at all. I still have mild cramping on occasion.

I am due to get my period in 5 days but have been experiencing constant dull lower ab pain and the occassional sharp shooting pain in my stomach for last week. Ive lost 2 pregnancies though so am very anxious and am going crazy waiting until my period is due so I can take a preg test. In all honesty though, my body does feels differently compared to the last few months of trying unsuccessfully. I experienced sore breasts and morning sickness the first 2 pregnancies though but not now so hope its not all in my head. Fingers crossed!

Hello, I am 5 and half weeks pregnant and I started having alot of pain at 3 weeks. They thought that it was ectopic, because most of the pain was concentrated in my right side. I had to have many tests and with my last ultra-sound they discovered that it is not ectopic, but rather the embryo implanted itself in the top right side of my uterus. I can usually feel it right there, as an ache, a pain or just a little poke.

I had brown sotting for two days. After the spotting I began to have cramps in my lower abdominal area not painful tho. I am now peeing more frequently. Anyone have this to happen?
Dayna says...
I have read all the postings, and what each person described pertaining to the cramping is how I feel, but I’m a little confused my husband and I have been trying to conceive, I stopped the pill Aug 24th.. As of last week Sept 11th, I noticed some cramping in my lower stomach, its mostly on my right lower side. I do have lower back pain, but not as bad as my stomach pain.
I was really hoping for a positive, because I really thought my body felt different, but I stopped and got a home pregnancy test, and it was negative. I guess it was all just in my head. I thought that the cramps I was having (still am) was because I was going to start my cycle, but I’m not suppose to start for another 2 weeks.

I had my IUI on Thursday. Over the weekend I began to experience pain at the top of my left leg, especially at night. For two nights in a row, I have been awakened by strong lower abdominal pain that goes away after moving around for a while. When I was pregnant with my first, I felt nothing and even forgot that I missed my period because of the absence of cramping. What is going on?
Kia says...
Congrats Ladies!
I too, am 5 weeks preggo and have been experiencing mild cramping throughout the day that feel very much like period cramps. I have been increasing my water intake, but I wil drink even more, thanks for the advice! However, last night, I was awakened by that same severe lower ab pain that lasted for about 15 min. and went away completely on it’s on. For the most part, I feel that this could be normal; however, I suggest that if this last more than a week to go to the doctor (which I will if it continues) because I experienced this same pain for what I can remember on two occassions earlier this year @ around weeks 5-7 and ended up having a miscarriage at week 7.
I’m trying not to worry too much because that will only make the situation worse. Besides, after hearing from all of you, I know that I am not the only one going through this weird stage of cramping. I wish you all continued blessings.

Hi Jules, i’m having all of those symptoms that you’ve mentioned: bloating, clower abdomen cramping, lower back pain, and i’m always tired. I’ve recently started having cravings and sometimes my increased sense of smell makes me nauseous. I’ve also been getting pink/brown/mucousy spotting but i went to my dr. and he didn’t see anything wrong. my next appt. is on sep 25 so wish me luck!
best wishes to you all =)

Thanks to all of you for posting. It’s comforting knowing that early pregnancy cramping is normal. I’m in my sixth week and have been getting occassional light cramping- primarily on my right side. Just as I was starting my fifth week I experienced a bout of really intense cramping that lasted ten to fifteen minutes. It scared me because it was even worse than regular period cramping. Fortunately, it didn’t last long and I haven’t had any severe cramping since. I’m so happy about being pregnant but am almost scared to get too excited. Never been pregnant before and am praying we all make it full term with healthy babies in ‘09! God bless!

hi Sharon Van Dorien, the symptoms that you’re having sure sounds a lot like a UTI, or urinary tract infection. Go to a clinic and get some antibiotics for that. UTI’s are not fun!

Hi everyone just wanted to share with you what my dr. said. I told him that i’ve been cramping and spotting for a week now and he told me that it’s not normal. I’ve talked to someone else who’s had cramping and spotting and went on to having a healthy pregnancy and she told me to not worry. The dr. told me to come back in if i feel that there is something wrong or if i start bleeding heavily. I’ve decided to stop reading pregnancy books and worrying so much because that just won’t do any good. So good luck to you all and i hope everyone has a healthy pregnancy =)

Hello & congrats to all who are soon to be mommies! I am appx. 5 weeks along & I too have been having cramps (what feels like period cramps) for about a weeks now. Actually, before the cramps I had pain only on the lower right hand side of my abdomen…. come to find out at my first dr.’s appt. that I have a corpus luteum cyst (on the right) which explained the pains on the right….. my doctor explained that many pregnant women get cysts on the corpus luteum & should go away on its own by 10-12 weeks. So for those of you who are feeling pains only on one side, it might be a cyst on your corpus luteum!

I had horible cramps the day after I found out I was pregnant. I used one of this early tests so I was only 3 weeks pregnant. My cramps were so horible that end up in ER. Diagnosis possible miscarriage. My hcg was only 65. Two days later my hcg 200. My doc says all looks like normal pregnancy…my bad cramps lasted 3-4 days, still have cramps but mild mainly at night…my doc explained I may have a condition…because i have horibly painful periods so it maybe normal with this condition to have bad cramp during early pregnancy. She said they will subside. Forgot to mention no bleeding at all.
I was thinking my results will be bad, so nervous. All credit to God : “Help my unbelief Lord!” I am so thrilled all looks good. I can put up with the pain now. Much better today. Was able to go to work. Only mild cramps. I want to encourage all of you. Don’t despair!

Ok, so I can see by all these comments that some cramping is normal, however I am experiencing something that I haven’t heard mentioned yet.
I am 6 weeks along, and for the past 5-6 days I have been having some pain on the inside of my vagina (sorry if TMI) It’s kind of like cramps, but not really, I have never felt it with PMS and I would describe it more as a “spasm” It’s really random and only lasts a second or two.
No bleeding or spotting at all, and any PMS type cramps have been minimal.
Any thoughts?

I am 7 weeks pregnant tomorrow and I also have had pretty uncomfortable cramping for about 3 weeks and a sharp pain around my left ovary area. My HCG levels are very strong and I’ve also had a few miscarriages in the past so this totally worried me. My Progesterone levels were a little low so I’ve been on Progesterone pills for 2 weeks. The Dr. said my cramping was normal due to stretching of my uterus and is common. I do NOT have any spotting. I had an ultrasound yesterday and my baby had a good heartbeat. They did find a cyst on my left ovary explaining my sharp pain in that area. The ultrasound technician said that often occurs because of pregnancy and I probably conceived on that side. I was told it should go away on its own. So I guess all is well! good luck to everyone

To all worried soon-to-be-mothers,
I have been married for 4 yrs and have been trying to cenceive since then. God finally answered our prayers last week when i found out that iam indeed pregnant confirmed by the pregnancy test kit. I wanted more confirmation so we went to see an OB, she tested my urine and did an internal exam (pap smear). She said I had some bleeding in my cervix which is normal & nothing to worry about. We couldnt be any happier!
I slept early that night after the check-up but I got awaken around 10pm by this horrible pain in my abdomen..it was nothing like a menstrual cramps–it was so much worst! It lasted for about 20 mins and then it went away. It scared me to death! I hurriedly researched online to find information about what just happened. Then i came across this site, it was a lil bit of a relief knowing a lot of women do experience this kind of cramping but I also read that it might be a sign of extopic pregnancy or miscarriage.
In the next coming days (for about 5 days) i have been experiencing this on and off pain on the right side of my abdomen, just on that side. I read again that it could be ectopic pregnancy. It helped me a lot to elevate my legs and drink a lot of water. It doesn’t usually last that long and it comes & goes.
Just about 2 days ago, as I was playing scrabble with hubby, i felt this stabbing pain all over my abdomen (not just on side this time). I ran to our bedroom and cried myself to sleep that night. I called my OB the next day and thank God she was able to see me that same day. She did an internal/cervix exam again. She said my uterus is swollen so that means the baby was implanted there and we can rule out extopic pregnancy. We had to go back 2 days after for the Ultrasound which we did yesterday. Since i am only 6 weeks pregnant the Ultrasound was done Transvaginal, it was as uncomfortable as pap smear but i really didn’t care. We saw our baby for the 1st time, The tech told us that our baby’s heart just started beating today. The baby is absolutely fine! She also checked my ovaries, fallopian tube and other areas in my abdomen to make sure nothing else is causing the pain–Thank God everything is normal. She told me that each pregnancy is different that goes without saying that each woman’s experience is different as well. Some went through the whole pregnancy with no pain and some suffered. I told her I really don’t care how much pain I will have to go through as long as I know that my baby is ok.
So to all mothers-to-be out there, always have yourself checked when you are uncertain or worried or experienced something unusual—it never hurts to see the doctor! Good luck to all of you!

Hi! I am so glad I found this site. Before I became a christian the doctors said I could never get pregnant. And I never did. Well now that I am married, we had 2 miscarriages and I am now 5 weeks pregnant! This pregnancy is a lot different than the other two. I am sick as a dog (thank God though) and tender all over. Cramping slightly through out the day, no bleeding though. My doc did say to obstain from intercoarse until the ultrasound just because of the prior miscarriages.
The last thing you want to do is worry. Just take care of yourself, believe God, and keep seeing your doctor.
Also, I found a really incouraging book called Supernatural Childbirth for any of those who need the extra encouragement.
Congratulations!!

Hi,
My husband and I just found out last week that we are expecting our 4th child. Moreover, we had a really bad ’scare’; I experienced some bleeding & cramping this past week, and was told that the baby was developing in my tube, and that the only option was to terminate the pregnancy for the sake of my own health/life.
However, the Doc was initially supposed to administer the injection, which would ‘kill’ off the growing embryo, but was called to deliver a baby. After he finally made it to my room, four hours later, he decided to wait & observe me for 2 days because he explained that, after careful observation, the ‘blood’ work was different from what the Ultrasound image was ’showing.’
Thanks be to God, after 3 days of waiting, praying, and seeking God, he re-did the entire test & Ultrasound, and the results revealed that the baby was in the uterus, and there was NOTHING in my tube.
I advise mothers-to-be to: ask GOD first, and always inform your Doc! Pray that God will guide the Physician, Nurse, etc. hand, because Life and Death is in His (GOD) hands (smile).

Hi all, I am on the mirena IUD and have been since Last October, 9 weeks after birth of my DD. Well my crazy symptoms have been light headed, major headaches. No naseau, no unusual smells, but I have been really hungry in the mornings and evenings but I can usually go eating once a day.
I went for pap smear, my well womans exam on Monday. I told the Dr. LMP came Sept 6, 08. She said she was concerned b/c it hasn’t showed up yet.
Moving on, she checked for my IUD to make sure it was in place just to find out the strings are missing and no longer hanging from my cervix. She then wisked me to ultrasound for a transvaginal. She said she saw the IUD in my Uterus as it had moved from my cervix….I am so concerned. I hear alot of women becoming pregnant while on the IUD and its quite strange….
She did tell me I had a UTI, which she prescribed antibiotics for.
Since my cycle hasn’t come and I have just been waiting, I have had off and on MS like cramping…You the kind that makes you run to the bathroom and check to see if you can catch it on time to put on a pad or tampon, well nothing….I am now 2 weeks late. My birthday is at the end of this month and I am just figuring if anything has to do with this lateness.
I am still cramping today and have been for the past couple of weeks off and on, like I am PMS….I have never PMS this long…..I am do to follow up with OBy only if I notice anything stange she says….I have had lower back bain on the left side and the cramping is off and on..Sometimes it is when I move around, or sitting still.
I have tender nipples but no sore breast..Its like I don’t know whats going on……With my DD I did have all the pregnancy sypmtoms, PMS cramps, but no period, naseau and vomiting, back ache, groing pain, and I am really fair skinned so you could see my veins really really good in my chest area….With my DS cramping, and I vomited once…2 DD I didn’t even know I was until 5 weeks later then the morning sickness came.
I am so worried b/c I got the IUD so my hubby and I could plan and now it may be the other way around…..
I am trying to wait it out to the end of the month since that is when my BDay and if it doesn’t show by then, I am going to request her to draw blood and check my levels…..If I am, we will accept it, you know…Just say a prayer..
Thanks all.

Hi all, I am six and half weeks pregnant, I have also had 2 miscarriages. I have had cramping since I found out I was pregnant at week 4. It started out pretty minor but turned pretty severe, I called my doctor and he prescribed progesterone because of my previous miscarriages (it strengthens the walls of your uterus). Since I’ve been on it my cramps are still there but more annoying than anything – they come and go, and are pretty weak. I’ve had NO bleeding, which is great since I bled right away with my last miscarriage. I go for my ultrasound tomorrow just to make sure everything is okay. Pray that it is!!! I just want to tell all the ladies out there that have had miscarriages and are now pregnant, and whose cramping takes them back to the horrible days of their miscarriage… stay strong, try to relax, and you know God can do the impossible, just because it didn’t happen before DOES NOT mean it can’t happen now. I’m thinking of you all as I go through the same thing. Best of luck!

Hello mommies, expectant mommies, and hopeful pregos,
Im 38, with two sons that are 19 1/2yro & 16yro. I was told 12yrs ago that I was unable to become pregnant due to endo in my tubes. After 7yrs of fertility treatment, I let it go. My husband and I enjoyed life as it came. March 08′ my period was due the 29th. It never showed I waited 7 days. Went to the clinic(the oldest one there) and two hours later found out that I was 6 weeks. Pregnancy was going well(beside for the discomfort of early pregnancy) but real good. Until, May…one day after memorial day…I did not feel right. My hunger aches was gone, I had a tugging feeling in my lower ab. and my stomach had shrunk. Story short, went to the E.R> had a ultrasound and there my baby was..dead..no heartbeat. We were crushed, devasted. But life goes on, Here it is Oct. I ov’d on the 20th but had sex o the 10h day and been ongoing ever since. My period is due Nov 4th. Been mildly cramping for about 3-4days. Alittle tender around my breast. I still workout 4days a week, take my pre-natals, eat well and hope the best. Not too anxious, so I have not told my husband because he is ready to start again, BAD!. We will see…But congrats to you all, sincerley. For those who been through M/C’s, first time pregos, or just need someone to chat with, my email is divaluv7059@yahoo.com. Good night..and good luck…

Hi Everyone,
Alot of you seem extremely worried, so I thought Id share with you what my doctor told me. She says that if you are experiencing pain on one side or the other, it could be that is the side that you ovulated from and you could have gotten a cyst on that ovary. I had that happen during my second pregnancy and I was extremely worried… but she assured me that it was VERY normal and now I have a healthy happy 5 year old as proof. However, if you are having the extreme period-like cramps it could be “bad news”. A few months ago (during my week 5) I started cramping really bad and then 1-2 days later I started bleeding badly and I was,in fact, miscarrying….So rest assured, if there is no blood or minimal blood you should be ok… but if you miscarry… you will definitely know it. It is generally an extremely heavy period with lots of tissue and clots… Cramping in your early pregnancy is very common.. that is why so many of us exprience it… (a lot of it may be gas). Best wishes to you all:)

Just had to write in!! I am currently 12 weeks pregnant. I am 39 and pregnant with my 2nd pregnancy the first ended in a miscarriage in May, (on Mothers Day no less) In that instance the cramping got continually worse over the day and then I miscarried within a couple of hours. This time around I also had cramping from about 5 weeks until about 10 1/2 weeks and then sporadically over the last couple of weeks. It was a light annoyance more than anything (like your period is coming) not the hard core ones that came with the miscarriage. It is hard to do but breathe, relax, rub that belly and give it all your love. From what my Dr. told me, as long as you are not bleeding (not the occasional spotting) you are probably okay. There are so many twinges, pinches, aches, ungodly gas pains etc. to come. Also, probably TMI but a lot more discharge. I can’t tell you how many times I ran to the bathroom because I was worried I was bleeding. Or after peeing checking the tissue for blood because of the cramping! So unnerving! My being so panicky and manic is finally starting to subside!! My next worry is the CVS test which is scheduled for Wed. Please cross your fingers and send good will for this next milestone so I can hopefully sit back and enjoy the rest of this amazing adventure.
Congratulations to all out there and good luck to all of you through any of your concerns!!

I have been having cramping && my breasts have been sore often && swollen. I have been having mood swings lately. The other day I almost started crying in the grocery store! I have had some nausea but not much at all && my lower back has been hurting. I had sex 3 days ago && a week ago as well. I know you can get some signs of pregnancy as early as 1 week && im starting to think I am. I actually am starting to feel a bit nauseated now. Im not sure if I am or not because the first time we used a condom but it was too small so he took it off && he pulled out. I know you can still get pregnant from pulling out but he says he didntt pre. Then the second time im not sure if he came or not because we did it twice because we kept getting stopped in the middle of it. I know he pre came then. Does anyone know how much of a chance that I am pregnant? I already had my period almost two weeks ago. Thanks. =]

I had a period that lasted five days in early pregnancy. My lower abdome egan to protrude before I could even take the test. I began having dull aches on the right side of my pelvic along with twinges or like fluffyness all throughout my belly at times it felt like a heart was beating right on the side of me. Finally after a month I finally found out I was prego. Not only prego but with twins. I was freaked out because I knew I was pregnant yet all my hpt’s were neg. I was paranoid I was having an ectopic pregnancy but everything is fine. I think cramping is normal no matter how painful as long as there’s no heavy bleeding. I also got pains inside my vagina. Im ok

Hi,
i’ve started experiencing mild cramping, i have misscarried twice in the past once at 4 months and again at 6 weeks 2 years later. it has been 3 years since the last misscarriage and i found out last month that i am in fact pregnant again. i am 8 weeks 5 days now and having mild cramps, i know that in most cases this is very common and should not cause a great deal of discomfort, but none the less am still worried. i have an appointment with the midwife tomorrow as i am classed as high risk, and am going to ask to have a dopler detect the babys heart beat. i have had no bleeding either which is a good sign. so hopefully everything will be ok.
Congratulations to all you mothers to be. and if you have any worries with severe cramping or bleeding please go to A&E if you cannot reach your doctor.

Hi all
I have been having sore breasts and this tugging/pulling sensation in my lower abdomen for a couple of weeks now. As my period date got closer my symptoms got intense and I started having short episodes of sharp cramping. I was supposed to start period today and got a + result when taking EPT. The line was faint, so I took another one a few hours later and + again! I have been having period type cramping for about 3 days now, but from what I read it’s normal. The cramping doesn’t feel as intense as period cramps but is really annoying and down right scary. Im going to OB this week to make sure. A couple of weeks ago I knew I was pregnant but my husband kept telling me it was probly hormone changes. I know my own body, so trust your instinct. No one knows your body like you do. Good luck to all trying to concieve!

Hi,

I have been experiencing uncomfortable cramping, especially on the right side, and some down low across the middle. I never felt anything like this with my first baby, who is now an adorable 12months old. But I’m woried after reading about ectopic pregnancies because of the cramping.
Is it too soon to test? I’d rather be sure, and even though I just have a hunch I’m pregnant, feeling tired, dizzy when I stand up too fast, bloated, and with PMS symtoms but I’ve never had PMS before and I’m 28 years old. . . should I wait a few more days or test now?

I am 5 weeks along and have had pretty bad cramping for the last week It is consistently present, but sometimes it is worse and sometimes much better, but it is always there. My doctor gave me an ultrasound, and HCG and a progesterone test. It is too soon to see anything in the uterus on the ultrasound, but if it is tubal, they can see it as early as 4 weeks. The HCG tests for the same hormone as an at-home test but it is cumulative so you have to take it every 48 hours to make sure your levels keep going up. The progesterone test tells you if you have inter-utero pregnancy if it is above 25. Luckily mine was 29.5, which is excellent. My doctor said the cramping is completely normal and not to worry about it, but it was so nice to get all these tests done and be reassured. It is very important to go see your doctor if your cramping is only on one side. You can take tylenol as long as there is nothing but acetaminophen in it. Also warm baths help tremendously, just make sure it is not hot enough to turn your skin pink.

I found out i am pregnant today! I’ve been reading this site because ive been having spotting and sharp cramps. The cramps have only lasted 10 seconds or less. They are very random and happen once or twice a day. Comes to find out it was implantation cramping and bleeding. unfortunately its a bitter sweet moment. Im 21 and most likely will end up a single mom. But im excited about the bundle of joy.

i guess i am looking for some hopeful thoughts! i have been worried and excited a little over a month now that i may be preganant, my body has gone through so many crazy changes in such a short period of time, i feel pregnant but i am scared to get the news that i wont be! i have had taken 4 of the pee test all of which came out negative, and i went to a clinic where they did a pee test which was on jus an everyday home pregnancy test and i told them the results i have already gotten from them and she told me blood would be the only for sure way to tell, so one week later i have a dr apt set for today at 130 and i am freaking out! i want to be pregnant and i feel like i am i jus dont want bad news! i have read through every comment posted on here and i have been through all that and than some! my last period was october 4th it ended by about the 8th, starting oct 28th i started throwing up and i have just had the sick feeling ever since along with cramping, not painful jus annoying like what you get before you start your period and they start to hurt, nov 4th came and NO period! than normally when i am about to start a period i get really realy bad painful cramps n bleed pretty heavily and a total shock on the 8th of nov, like 2 drops of pinkish and brown blood and NO CRAMPS! not a normal period for me at all! than the next day 3or 4 drops of pink blood no cramps n that was the last day i bled, since then i have been really tired, major headaches, cramping but not painful, moody, emotional over the stupid stuff lol, sore back and for the last two weeks my boobs were fine but my nipples got really sensitive and darker!! and just 2 days ago now i got the painful breasts! so i think that all these signs tell me i am and i feel i am but i am just really afraid that it will be more bad news today after the blood test! any words of encouragement would be GREATLY app. thanks! n congrats to all u who are bout to become a mommy and i hope to be joining u in that crowd soon!

My cramps came even before I did a HPT on about 4 weeks. The cramps feel almost the same a menstrual cramps but a bit lighter and mine were 24/7. Spoke to one of my girlfriends whom just had a girl earlier this year and she reassured me that I’m perfectly fine for she also had the cramps (much worse than me). She even had to sleep with a warmwater-bottle some nights and had massive headaches. Today she and her baby is perfectly fine, so dont worry girl : WHAT MUST BE, WILL BE!

Hey, everybody.
I found out that I was pregnant just last week… I believe I’m about 4 weeks along, but haven’t been to see my ob-gyn yet. I’ve been having very light uterine cramping on and off… more annoying than anything… and my breasts are very tender.
I have a lovely 4-year-old daughter (the pregnancy was completely normal), and I miscarried our second child back in April (the worst experience of my life to date).
I’m really worried about this pregnancy, although the odds are excellent that everything is hunky-dory.
One of the reasons I decided to comment on this website is because my husband and I just finished having, uh, “relations”, and after I orgasmed, I had the absolute worst cramps for about fifteen minutes. They were so bad, I threw up (and I haven’t had any serious morning sickness yet!). I suspect the tenderness of a swollen uterus combined with a.. ahem… sizable partner has something to do with it (lots of bumping going on, apologies for TMI!!!), but I’m still worried.
The cramps are completely gone now, but they caught me by surprise. It was like… yummmm, then after about five minutes… oh god OW ow ow ow! I was actually crouched on the floor in pain.
Has anybody else experienced bad cramps after orgasm? I’m not bleeding or spotting or anything. The cramping is back to its light good old uterus-stretching self. Any similar stories would make me feel much better.
Thanks for listening.

I had sex on last Saturday 11/22 and 11/23. Between both of these days, I have 4 possibilities of getting pregant.
It was until 3 days later that I started experiencing cramping sensation in my lower stomach. Over the holday weekend, it was unbarable at times. I have one child now and it would be a blessing if the outcome was positive. If the outcome is positive, I will be 41 when he or she arrives,
I want to wish the very best to everyone. I am so happy that you guys are so brave to share your stories which encourages the heart of WOMEN LIKE ME.
God bless!!!!

Hello ladies,
I just wanted to stop by and share my story. My last MS was Oct 11, 2008 and I havent had a period since. All my tests are negative. I saw my gyn 10 days after my missed period in november and she said there was no sign of preg but it may be too early to tell. She wrote me an RX of progesterone to help my period along but none yet. My 2nd period will be missed in the next few days. HPT’s are still negative. I am haveing mild cramping but I have felt crampy/achy for a few weeks now. I’m having preg symptoms as well (tender breasts, nausiated, hungry!!! bloated…gassy!). Anyways, has anyone experienced so many negative tests? and resulted pregnant? I havent had a blood test yet maybe I should go for another visit. Please Advise!
thanks and best wishes to all!!

I have experienced cramping after orgasm and of course freaked right out. I asked my doctor and consulted a few books and it says this is quite normal in early pregnancy bc of increased blood flow to the area and muscle tension. Don’t worry-my doctor told me that it should be gone by the second trimester.
As for the cramping and spotting-it is really hard to just relax. I am 6 weeks along with my first pregnancy and spend most of my day worried that something will happen. I have been to the doctor twice this week with q’s and everytime she just tells me to relax. Te common theme is that if the pain is severe get help-if it’s mild and irregular try to relax.
Praying for all of you-I can’t seem to get to 12 weeks fast enough.

I have had pretty bad cramps for the past week so I chose to take a HPT and it came out positive! I then took 3 more and they were positve too! I also had lower back pain to the point I was unable to sleep for 2 days. However, I am very excited and have my first appt is in 2 weeks; I will be 8 weeks by then. I am still experiencing cramping and it is much worse during the night. The lower back pain isn’t as bad and I’m contributing the back cramping to my uterus expanding. This is my very first pregnancy so it’s all new to me!

i am now 6 wks pregnant and also have cramping. no spotting or bleeding of any type. i have severe cramps w/my period so i just figured mine during pregnancy are going to be worse than normal people report. everything i read says its normal because of the stretching of the uterus. i seem to have it worse at night. i have now piled up all my pillows to where i am sleeping almost sitting up at night. i get about 3 hrs of sleep then get woke up by the uncomfortableness of cramps. i walk around for a few minutes and they go away. cant sleep on my side at all. i have my first appointment in about a month. hope all is well.

Hi everyone! I am 7.5 weeks pregnant, I took 2 HPT last week and they both came out positive. I didn’t think I was pregnant due to the fact that I thought I was having pms cramping and pink/brownish colored discharge.
and everything seems normal.
I have been experiencing very painful cramping especially if I am sitting for awhile and when I stand it hurts very much but I only have the cramps on my left side.
Three yrs ago I had an ectopic pregnancy, so this morning while i was getting ready for work I noticed I was bleeding with severe cramping on my left side. I completely freaked out I thought I may of had another ectopic pregnancy. I went to the emergency room and after all my testing and sonograms they found out that my babies (TWINS!!!!) are in my uterus
I was told that every woman’s pregnancy is different and the cramping is from my uterus growing (my cramping is all day long). As far as the bleeding- they don’t know and saw no more signs of it and said that it can just happen. I just have to be careful and watch for severe cramping and bleeding.
I have had no nausea or vomiting and am very fortunate just extreme fatigue. But hopefully this helps some of you other ladies, if you are worried see you doctor!
Well ladies it has been one heck of an emotional roller-coaster for me today and I wish you all the best!
Hugs

Congratulations to all you Mommy’s to be!
I have had 2 miscarriages (years apart) followed by a normal pregnancy with a normal birth. My daughter is now 3 1/2 and I just found out I am 5 weeks pregnant! I too have had cramping off and on, all over, and they seem to worsen when I am sleeping to the point they wake me up. I find that if I am sleeping on my right side, I will cramp more, but when I sit up for a few mins, it will go away. I have not had any bleeding and I know this is from the stretching of my uterus. I have sore breasts, slight nausea (nausea worsens when I eat), but am extremely energetic! This is very different from when I had my daughter… with that pregnancy I was very tired and my face broke out terribly. I am getting a very smooth complexion and feel great!
Cramping is a normal part of pregnancy, as long as it is not accompanied by bleeding. Though some women do have spotting or even heavy bleeding, and things still come out ok. I worked in the OB unit, as well as in the ER, and every women will experience different feelings. Just because you cramp and even bleed is not always a sign of miscarriage, though you should always consult your OB if this does take place. Two HCG blood tests, 48 hours apart, will tell you exactly what is going on in your body. Stress can be very hard on the body, as hard as it is, try to relax. I know it is easier said than done because with every cramp your mind will begin going a million miles an hour with thoughts all over the place. I did want to say that just for reassurance of safe play after the 2 miscarriages, I did substain from intercourse until I was 8 weeks just to make sure that an orgasm (which causes your uterus to contract) did not cause any complications. I was a worry wart because I lost both pregnancies at 6 weeks, and did not want to risk another. I know now this pregnancy is the real deal and I am in the safe!
Good luck to all you Mommies and to the ones trying to conceive.

I just found out on the 2nd that I am Preggo!!!! YAY! However, I have experienced a lot of cramping over the last 36 hours. I took the pregnancy test 5 days early and it came back blaring positive. The cramping has been moderate to severe and only lasts for 5-10 seconds and I notice it mostly while I am sitting. I wonder if this is implantation. Unfortunately I heard about a chemical pregnancy, where the egg gets fertilized but, it doesn’t complete the implantation process. Ending in a period that may be up to a week late. I just hope this isn’t chemical.

hi TMF – thank you! it seems most on this forum are in need of advice rather than able to give it so its great when someone like you comes along.
CARLA – every symptom in the book sounds positive to me. maybe its just to early for a positive test? I’ve been bleeding lightly for six days when my period should only be due in the next week and I have constant dull cramps halfway between my bellybutton and my wotsits. I saw a hint of a shadow of a positive line on last night’s test but wonder if thats there on the tests anyway. My nipples were really sensitive for a few days about a week ago with possible conception around the 12th.
The one thing I have learned from reading and reading these forums is that every pregnancy is different and different doctors give different advice – some even scaremonger, though they hardly mean to.
Fingers crossed, sending sparkling baby dust to all hopefuls and confirmed.
x

Here’s one for you guys. I started the pill Seasonique in October and stopped it Jan 1 due to spotting for 3 wks. On a normal cycle, I will ovulate approx 2 wks into it. (Both my babies were 1 shot deals) I had an oops! x 2 on Jan 18. I’ve been taking HPT like crazy w/neg results. I even went as far as to calling my ob ofc and insisting on a blood test on Jan22 (too early I’m told) which was neg. Ever since our oops! I have had increasing lower abd cramping which feels very similar to pms. I’ve had 2 prev c-sections. Does anyone think I could be pregnant?

Im a 39 year old working on my 3rd pregnancy. I have an almost 18 year old and an almost 16 year old. I didnt plan this pregnancy but we are happy none the less. Although not planning and getting pregnant I think has left me feeling panicky. I was on some medicines and took them obviously early on in my pregnancy. Ive been off of them for 3 weeks now and they figure I am about 6 weeks 2 days along. I have had 2 internal ultrasounds confirming it wasnt an ectopic pregnancy. The first ultrasound the OB nurse didnt think my gestational sac was large enough..sending me into a panic. The Dr however said she thought it was fine. My hormone levels were good right where they expected them to be. My 2nd app in the ultrasound the nurse said she didnt like the crown to rump growth. My sac had tripled in size but she wanted more growth…more blood work and today I was told me hormone levels are up but not as high as they would like to see them. Ok so this is all new to me. I have back soreness breast tenderness I have lightheaded spells and sleeping isnt the greatest right now. I dont have suckness except certain smells make me nauseous. Also things I craved a week ago now make me gag. I have heartburn and just in general fleek blechy. So my question is this. Why do they feel the need to worry us so much with all these tests? Has anyone else gone through being told this stuff too….their hormone levels were low or small growth? If so let me know how things turned out because Im lost totally. Thanks a bunch ladies!!!

I haven’t even told my husband yet. I just want to know everything is okay before I tell him. He will be very happy since we decided to have another baby.
I wish all you ladies the best with your pregnancies and please post updates, so I can know what happens.

Yes, I agree this blog has been so very helpful.
My husband and I had unprotected sex on Feb. 1st and I know it was just a day or two before ovulation. I’ve been searching the internet so much this past week because just a few days after intercourse (6th) I started getting cramps (mostly due to gas) in my lower right abdomen. And the dull stomach pain still has not gone away. I notice that it mostly starts in the evening and lasts until the morning. There were also times that I was dizzy and lightheaded. I seriously couldn’t find anyone else with this issue until I read this blog! I’ve taken 2 HPT and I know it’s to early but I’m so anxiety to find out! I feel alot better knowing that other women have had cramping/bloating just days after unprotected sex. I will test on the 17th again, but I hope I am; I feel like I am, but we’ll see.
I wish everyone the best and God Bless…

I am 7 and half weeks and have been having cramps for over a week but no bleeding or spotting, everything else I have read said it could be a sign of miscarriage. Also my morning sickness has gone. I got really worried about the cramps yesterday so called the antenatal helpline at my hospital and the midwife said it sounds like a miscarriage and nothing they can do so just put my feet up and relax, (Bit difficult to relax when someone has just told you that!). My boyfriend is also getting a bit fed up as he thinks I am obsessing about miscarriage. Im so happy I found this website today, makes me feel a much more calm to know other woman are experiencing the same thing. Also I keep reading that I should be constipated at this stage, in fact Im experiencing quite the opposite, is any one else? Hi Ladies! Just found out about 5 weeks pregnant and we are very excited. I have had 1 miscarriage and 1 child. I have been having cramping the last few days that feels like a period which I know is not going to come and it has made me nervous. I remember with my daughter that every month that I should have gotten my period I would get cramps. Almost like my body reminding me that you will get it soon hehehe…. So I believe normal cramping that feels like a period is normal throughout pregnancy although it’s still nervewracking until you reach that 12 week mark. When I had my miscarriage the cramping was extreme. If you find yourself hunched over in pain to the point of crying you should see a doctor this is not a normal sympton of pregnancy, this is a sign that something is going wrong. If you see any sign of bleeding you should also consult your doctor. Congrats to you all!

I had sex with my husband 6 days after my last period and sure I hit my ovulation cycle. 4 and 5 days later I had cramping, bloating, Hot flashes and nausea off and on. After those 2 days I have had mild period like cramping, and all the rest of the symptoms. I already have one son and don’t remember any of these symptoms because I was already over 6 wks along when I found out I was pregnant. My period isn’t scheduled for another week yet (even though I already used a hpt and was neg.) and feel like all these premenstrual symptoms are coming way too soon. I wouldn’t question the way I feel since I do get most of these symptoms each month, but the nausea and earliness of all the symptoms in relation to the time gap to my next period. And no bleeding, not even very much cervical mucous until the last few days. According to everything I have read about implantation, that wouldn’t have occured until just a couple days ago, so I need to wait at least a few more days before testing again. So many questions. I guess time will tell. I will try not to get my hopes up but know that I can always try again next month! Plus, I am 27 and very healthy. Good luck to everyone!

I just found out last night that my hubby and I are expecting. My period was due yesterday, and i took 2 pregnancy tests, both came back positive. I have noticed that some period like cramps started this evening. It’s not incredibly painful or anything, I was just concerned. After reading this I feel a whole lot more at ease! Thanks Ladies!

I have been experiencing cramping and low back pain off and on for a couple of days. I had a miscarriage last month and that’s how it started so I am rather anxious. It’s good to know that cramping is normal as I did not experience any cramping with my first pregnancy. However, I’ve had 2 miscarriages since and I’m a little paranoid. I got a very faint positive this morning and I am 4 1/2 weeks.

Cramping is something new for me. This will be my fifth pregnancy, fourth child. I have never ever experienced cramps during any of my other, so when I started I got very worried. This Monday was the first day. I noticed after I finished peeing that I was spotting. I just figured my period was coming down because it was accompanied by very severe cramping. Tuesday, the same thing when I went to the bathroom. The cramps have been going on since. The spotting returned this morning. It’s only that I spot one time. My Dr. told me not to worry and try to take it easy because I could be “threatening to miscarriage.” That is very easy to tell me Dr. I can’t help but to worry when my body is going through things it never has before.I am very confused and frustrated. I send my prayers to all that are experiencing this as well.

Hi all!!
What a great blog! it has made me feel so much better about my cramping. My last period was Feb. 15-19th, my boyfriend and I started trying right when I was ovulating and literally my boobs stated hurting about a week later. I started camping mildly about 2 weeks ago; waitied for my period to come but I took 2 pregnancy tests and they are positive! So happy!!! the cramping has not stopped though, is not unberable but it comes and goes especially when I work out or after sex, is the same happening to anyone??? Congrats to all the mommys

I’m so glad I found this post. I just found out on Saturday that I am pregnant. My last period was Feb 15-21, so I figure I’m about 4-5 weeks and I’ve had cramping since last week. It’s not really painful, just annoying. On a scale of 1-10, 10 being the most painful, I’d say it’s about a 3 with some jabs that feel more like 5 every now and then. At first I was worried, but I think I can rest easy until my first Dr. appt.

This blog/post really helped me! I found out I am 5 weeks pregnant this week. I have had mild cramping on and off for the past two weeks and was extremely paranoid about it. It isn’t too painful, nothing like my period cramps, but it is enough to make me worried. I have been having severe back pain and nausea as well. Reading how many other women are experiencing the same thing really made me feel better and less paranoid!

I feel so much better. We just took the test and it came back positive. It’s nice to know it’s relatively normal. It’s also a little scary…I’m going to be a mom! Thank you for all your help, ladies. Congratulations to all of you!

I just found out that i may be pregnant. I took 5 tests all are positive…very clear. I would be 5 weeks today and i do not have insurance and cant get it because its a preexsisting condition. ive had mild cramps every now and then, like a soreness feeling. My bf and i are going to get married if i am pregnant but i dont know for sure until i go to a doctor but i dont have insurance and cant get it? how expensive is it to see an ob without insurance?

I just found out Saturday that I am pregnant with my first child. I am 4+3 weeks and am experiencing cramping. Most of mine comes on when I “stress” my body, sudden movements, stretching, etc. Occassionally I get some cramping while sitting or standing still. I have not been to my OB/GYN, so I’m a little nervous, but I have spoken to many of my other friends who have kids and they all tell me that they cramped early on and that it’s normal as long as its not accompanied with other symptoms (blood, fever, etc). Congrats to everyone!

i just had 2 positive preg test at 10am this morning and am still in shock. i have a 3 year old already and the pregnancy was awful, i was very very ill with really bad cramping all the way through then the birth was awful im terrififed this time. ive had cramping for a week now sometimes severe that i actually thought it was because my period was late, well only a week latee and yes im pregnant havent told anyone yet. Started checking the net after the test becasue of the cramps and also because i had a little creamy discharge after a particularly painful one. cant remember this from last time but i do remember the cramping. any ideas, im making a docs appointment to get passed onto the midwife asap.

I took about 5 pregnancy tests since Sunday and I finally believed them yesterday after taking a digital test that specifically says “PREGNANT”. I started feeling a dull cramp about 6 – 7 days after I ovulated. The cramping has moved slightly since then, it’s now very low but it really was worrying me! I’m SO glad I found this article! It’s really eased my mind especially since this is my very first pregnancy! Congrats to everyone!!

Last January of this year, I was delayed for 3 weeks (first time that had happened to me since I am regular), after that I had a very painful menstrual period. Before this, I have tested 3 times and all were negative. Last March 22, I took a pregtest and found out that I am pregnant. I never had a period on Feb and waited for another almost a month to take a pregtest. Now I am on my 9 weeks and 2 days, and I am experiencing dull cramping as well as lower back pain most especially at night or after I sleep. This is our first baby so I am doing a lot of research just to keep my angel safe during my pregnancy. I hope the pain in my lower back will be gone as months progress and have a healthy baby.

I took my first pregnancy test yesterday and one this morning and they were both positive. on the way to the doctors today i started getting cramps and was very warm, I am 6 weeks and wasnt sure if this was normal as it is my first pregnancy, the doctor told me this was fine but i thought i would check the net and see. finding this page is after putting my mind at ease.

I’m about 4 weeks pregnant. I have cramping in the evenings mainly, and they only last about a minute each cramp. As by looking at the rest of the comments, it seems pretty normal. i get them slightly during early morning, but nothing compared to the evening. But this is all very reassuring to know, from others having the same cramping. I bought some powder mix for your water at Sprouts called “Natural Calm” it’s great, it helps the cramps calm. and a heating pad works too!

For all of you worried about cramping, I had bad cramps with my first pregnancy and now she is 20 months old-so all was well!
At the beginning of that pregnancy I had terrible PMS cramps and kept running to the bathroom expecting my period. No one had told me this was a symptom and I had no idea what was going on.
I “think” I am prego again….have a few cramps, but I’m not worried.
Good luck everyone

I am about 4 & 1/2 weeks along and began experiencing cramping on my lower left side last night. It isn’t really painful, just more like a dull, constant ache. I miscarried my last baby at Christmas time last year and as much as I don’t want to be anxious, the cramping does make me nervous. Has anyone else experienced cramping only on one side and had everything turn out fine?

I found out this week i was 5 weeks and a half, tody as of May 1st, I am 6 weeks. For those out there, trying drinking icetea with no caffeine, its healthy and it quenches your thirst with a taste. My mom recommended this too. I am having cramps sometimes a stitch in my side and it sometimes radiates into my butt, anyone know why that is? I have had a very minor morning sickness, have only grly sick a couple times but not too major. Also try taking Materna Centrum, its good for preventing spinal defects.

I had a d&c Mar 25th due to a miscarriage. My doctor never ran a hcg level on me following the d&c. The weekend before my follow up appt with him (Apr 20th), I took 2 hpt’s that finally came back negative. Last week I happen to take another hpt (Apr 27) and it came back positive. I called the doc and they had me come in for a blood test. It came back at an 8. The nurse told me that I just became pregnant and congratulations. I questioned could it be left over from the miscarriage, and she said probably not. I am going back in tomorrow for a 2nd blood test to see where my levels are. Here is the strange thing I am getting cramps but no period, dizziness and mild nausea. All things that I had when I was pregnant before – all the same just a little different. Could the nurse have been right and I am pregnant again so soon?

Hi Ladies! I thought I was alone in this but I see that I’m not!! I had a positive preganancy test this past Saturday. The test showed two lines with the second one being faint. The last time I was pregnant though this happened too and proved to be no issue as by the time I saw my OB/GYN their test came out positive. This ended up in a miscarriage though last year at about 5/6 weeks so I’m just as eager to research why I’m having all of these cramps. Mine started about a week or so before I was supposed to get my period and have lasted since then. I am now 8 days late. It was actually the first way I knew I was pregnant (beside the fatigue and oocasional nausa) since I never really get cramps at all. I had some lite cramping when I was pregnant before but this time they are more consistent and a little more intense. No spotting, I wouldn’t say painful but at times definately noticable. My doctor’s appointment is in 2 weeks so I guess I’ll see then. All I have to say to everyone is to be encouraged no matter the outcome! God knows the plans he has for you…plans for hope and future! All the best and I will keep you in my prayers

hi everyone,
I am 20 years old and im concerned i may be pregnant for the first time. I was suppose to have my period on April 22nd. It is now May 9th, so i am about 18 days late. I started feeling period like pains whenever i was suppose to have my period but my period just never came… i took 2 pregnancy tests when i was just a week late and another one when i was almost 2 weeks late and they came back negative. I have been feeling a little nausea throughout the day…maybe because im stressing out. Im not sure. Ive had a little diarrhea too. The cramping just feels so much like a period coming on that it makes me think that im late and im just going to have a really bad period. Im just not sure about any of this… any advice on personal experiences would be awesome. I mean is there a good chance i could be pregnant?
tam says...
My last period began March 29th, and I tested positive (2 HPTs) May 8th. In 2007 I had an ectopic pregnancy that resulted in laproscopic surgery. While there was severe cramping, bloating, and shoulder pain, there was no bleeding. Six weeks into this pregnancy, I have very tender breasts and nipples, bloating, mild nausea, and period-like cramping.
My concern is that the cramping is typically on the right side (where my ectopic was) and is worsened with coughing or sudden movement. While not totally isolated to one side, I do feel it there more often than the other or all over. There is no bleeding. The pain is typically mild to infrequently sharp. Very rarely am I doubled over in pain. I have noticed that some of the pain/discomfort is alleviated with the passing of gas.
I suppose my question is, does anyone else have similar symptoms, and if so, what were your results? I have not made my OB appt yet, so my worry radar is in overdrive.

I am pretty sure that I am just ~3 weeks along. I too have been having mild annoying cramping off and on through out the day and get some at night. It feels like pangs of light period cramps. I just wanted to state to those who may not be aware that even though you take a test and it comes out negative, if you are definately feeling pregnant you probably are and your HCG levels are just low, wiat a few days and test again. I have this problem. This is my third pregnancy and I was almost 6 weeks before I got a positive blood test with my first pregnancy. The second pregnancy was sooner, but still took a while. I also did not cramp like I am now. Glad I found this site to settle me down.

I just took 6 pregnancy tests and all of them were positive. All of the lines were very faint but still positive. 2 of the tests were the digital kind and they both said pregnant before the 3 minutes. I’ve been cramping a lot. I thought my period was going to start but hopefully this is just normal cramping. I had some spotting a week or 2 ago which i’m hoping was implantation bleeding. I just had the blood test done at the Dr.’s office today. This just doesn’t seem real but its exciting!

Hi everyone! I took a home pregnancy test this morning being that my period (supposed to be around May 31st or June 1st) did not come. The test came back positive. I was real surprised because my husband and I have been trying for several months, and I was worried that I cannot have any more children (I have a 3 yr old). I took an HCg test also, and I am expecting the results this afternoon. I have had cramping for the last week or so…and I spotted about 2 weeks after my last period. I am thinking this was probably the implantation bleeding, but I’m not sure. Either way, the cramping was weird to me because I did not have cramping with my first. You all have made me realize that cramping is actually quite common and not necessarily anything to worry about. I am just hoping for the best. Good luck to you all as well! I still have to tell my husband the news…wish me luck!

I’m glad I found this site and all of your comments. I’m 4-1/2 weeks and will not have my ultrasound till next week. I had light spotting one day and I’ve been having a dull, constant ache in my right side for two days. It does get worse at night and when I move quickly, and sometimes shoots down my right leg. Standing actually seems to make it better. My doctor said cramping and spotting are normal, I’m just scared to death something’s wrong. I am 5 weeks pregnant tomorrow and so excited! I too have been experiencing cramping and wondered it if was normal. The cramping started 3 days before my period was due, (I’ve only just come off the pill so thought it was my body adjusting). The cramping has been going on for over a week, but is getting a bit better. The pain was really bad a few days ago, it only lasts a little while and then is gone and as though nothing happened. I do find I cramp more at night – always at middnight for about 10 or 15 minutes.

I am 6 weeks pregnant and I have mild/mod cramping. I slightly bleed whenever I have a bowel movement – and only when I have a bowel movement. I called the doctor right away and I had to go in for blood work to test my HCG levels. HCG level testing is done by testing your level on one day and then again after 48 hours. During that time your HCG levels should have doubled. If your level was 4,000 on your first test they should have risen to 8,000 by the second test. I had the second test done yesterday (Friday) and I should be getting my results no later than Tuesday. I hope that everything is well since I had a miscarriage at 21 and was never able to conceive until now that I am 28.
Just a little more detail on my cramping and bleeding: The cramping began a week before my period. During my period I only spotted, which was the first sign since I usually have a heavy period. I still have cramping here and there but mostly when I get stressed out. Once I get home from work I relax and cramping goes away. I don’t know if water will help the baby from miscarrying, I just know it’s good to keep yourself hydrated. If you miscarry it won’t have anything to do with your water intake. Just take your prenatal pills and hope for the best. Wish me luck and I will let you know how my levels turned out. I also have my actual doctor appointment on the 30th of this month. To all the newbies: congratulations and good luck on your pregnancies…don’t ever be afraid to speak up and ask the doctor everything you have been questioning yourself about!

I am a week late today – usually I spot about a week before I actually get my period – but haven’t had anything yet! Crossing my fingers, but have been having cramps on and off for 2 weeks, I keep thinking I’m going to get my period, but nothing. We have been doing infertility testing the last few months and I had a tube xray after my last period. I have been researching and I read that some women get preggo after this test becasue it opens a blockage (which i had – a polyp at the opening of my left tube)…. ive been tired, had naseau without puking, headaches, cramping – but no positive test yet…. keep your fingers crossed for me!!!

UPDATE!
I got my results today. My HCG level for Wednesday was 20,000 and Friday’s level was 27,000 so they didn’t double. The ladies at the doctor’s office said they thought I was about 8 weeks pregnant because the HCG levels were high. I was referred right away to get an ultrasound just to make sure that I did not have a threatened abortion.
I got an appointment right away and had to chug a ton of water. Once in, I had a sonogram done which detected the gestational sac. Since it was too early to tell, I had to empty out my bladder and then I had the intravaginal sonogram done. This is the one where the long probe goes in vaginally and they can see things more clearly. The gestational sac (which was implanted on my uterus, thank God) had two tiny valves moving up and down on the bottom left side of the sac. It was the most amazing thing I have ever seen.
I am 5 weeks, 6 days and due February 16. I’m hoping the baby keeps growing strong.
One thing I did, which I have a hard time controlling is my anxiety. I was very anxious and stressed out about the whole thing. Which I know was affecting me big time. Not only was I threatened about the baby but I am up for promotion at my job and I was keeping the pregnancy under wraps since I think it would greatly affect the final decision on promotion and increase since I would be out for a long time next year. After seeing that little heart beat all that anxiety went away and none of that mattered anymore.
I will be back next week to give another update. Hope my info helps some of you out!

my period was due yesterday, june 23rd … i’ve been having cramps since sunday but no period yet. my breats have been sore for about 4 days. i’m tired but that’s not unusal. i’ve been reading that it’s possible to have cramps during early preg – that the uterus is expanding. so i took a preg test this morning and it was negative. i’m worried because my period is normally very regular. it’s hard to believe that it’s just a missed period because i feel like i should be on my period – with sore breasts and cramps. maybe the test is negative because it’s too early. i guess i’ll just keep waiting – test again later this week. thank you for this website – it’s very helpful! good luck everyone.

I am on CD 24 (8 DPO) and I have been cramping and having lower back pain since 5 DPO (seems longer than that though!) Especially bad at night. It seems like other people have had that same experience. I will test in a couple of days. But I think I will start drinking water and see if that helps.

It is a relief to read so many similar stories. I was woken at 3.30 this morning, the very day I reached 5 weeks pregnant, with cramping. The pain was only mild to moderate at times but my anxiety made it so much worse. It has been fairly constant throughout the day though less intense than at night. I think it will be ok. Take care and very best wishes to everyone! xoxo

hi everyone.
i just need a friend. i have been experiencing swollen, sore nipples poking out (never did that before), cramping, emotional mess, fatigue, frequent urination (isnt fair cuz all i drink is water and iced tea ) for almost 2 mos now. i went to a free clinic towards the end of june and pee test came up negative. when the symptoms didnt go away, especially the breasts…i’m just like this has to be it. i have been irregular since the beginning and diagnosed w/PCOS. friday i am going to get another pee and if its neg, a blood test. i have been praying about it and hope god will answer my prayers. funny thing is i opened my fortune cookie from yesterday, it says: “If you can shape it in your mind, you will find it in your life” i just started balling. how cool would that be to put in a baby book? anyway, i’m just an emotional mess just crying at the drop of a hat. i think if its neg again, it will just kill my spirit of hope. all these symptoms have never happened to me for this long or before. i’m so scared, scared of yet another dissappointment. please, anyone out there who may read this, pray for me.

I experienced cramping during my first pregnancy. I was about 4 weeks, but unfortunately, it was followed by bleeding and then a visit to the ER just to find out I was having a miscarriage.
Now, I’m pregnant again, and I’m 11 weeks. I have experienced cramps, but they were only present the first 4 weeks.
Now I feel totally fine, except for the natural nausea, vomiting, dizziness, headaches and so on. haha..

I have been having cramping lately; I’m about four weeks pregnant. I went to the doctor today and they say it’s too early to tell if anything is wrong, but they said my cervix weren’t open. I haven’t told anyone I’m pregnant I’m just a nervous wreck and I don’t know what to do. HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi Ladies and Congrats,
I too had horrible cramps with very light brownish discharge/bleeding at 4 weeks. It was hard to stand up it hurt so bad. My doctor said to take calcium with magnisium (always take together) once a day for a couple of days. My cramps almost went completely away. I have some slight ovary pain that is completely normal but otherwise cramping gone.
Good luck

I just wanted to share my story w/ladies who might be going through a similar situation. I found out I was pregnant in Feb, but then found out I had miscarried during an ultrasound in late March. Well, found out about 2 weeks ago that I’m pregnant again & I’m driving myself crazy about every little thing! I knew I was preggo 3 days after conception(I just knew), & I had a weird feeling on my left side..it wasn’t pain, it was just uncomfortable. I knew it was eptopic. But, I went to the dr & got some blood tests & everything is fine! I’m so relieved. I won’t be completely satisfied until I’m past the 12 week mark, but nonetheless, he did calm me down! But, the dr said cramping on one side is normal, as long as you’re not in SEVERE pain or bleeding. Best of luck!

I have a question. I have been having some light spotting with some light cramps. If I’m up on my feet for a while I start noticing it, but when I lay down the spotting/cramps go away.
Also I went to the doctors, because I was concerned that I was going to have miscarriage. You see I have a miscarriage back in May. So with this one, I though everything was okay until the light spotting/light cramps. When I went to the doctors and what we thought that I was to be 5 weeks and 5days the baby/sack didn’t look like 5 weeks and 5 days. I’m waiting to see if my counts double. But, what can this all mean????

I am about 4 and a half weeks pregnant. And I get cramps once or twice a day in the very bottom of my stomach… almost like strong period cramps. This is my second child and I never experienced cramps like this. I asked around to a few people who have had two children, and they all say that their cramps were worse with the second one. I am a very tiny person, and it almost feels like my stomach is tearing in two when I get the cramps. But I have no spotting… Is that normal? I try to drink lots of water, especially in this summer heat, but it gives me a very full feeling. Please send some advise on what to do… maybe I just gotta ride out the cramps… they will stop eventually… I hope.
Blaire says...
I have had several miscarriages in the past and if they were right at the time of my period I didn’t cramp much as I don’t usually during my period. I have had 2 miscarriages at about 6 weeks and I thought I was going to die because the cramping was so bad. I would just run a hot bath and relax until they were a little more under control and take some Motrin.
I’m currently 4.3 weeks and have started having some weak cramping but no spotting. I do however have an increased amount of discharge today.

Hey everyone. Thanks for sharing your stories…this has really helped me. No other site really addresses early cramping and I feel better now that I know I am not alone. I have a beautiful daughter who is 5 and my husband and I have been trying since she was 2 to have another. After two surgeries and 36 cycle failures I am now 7 dpo and having pms like cramps over my whole abdomen. Never had these before not even with my dd. Keeping my fingers crossed and trying not to go crazy during this dreaded tww.
Good luck to all of you!

I am about 3 weeks pregnant. I have all the early signs of pregnancy such as: sore breasts, nausea, mood changes, fatigue etc. I have taken 3 preg. tests that were positive. I am having cramps (like Pms cramps). I am sort of freakin out because I had a miscarriage at 6 weeks back in Feb; I am so worried that it is going to happen again so everyones prayers are appreciated. Reading everyones similar stories does relieve the anxiety somewhat. I called the dr. today and they do not want me to come in until Sep. 21st. I want a baby more than anything in the world I hope everything will be fine; I just keep telling myself that it will!!

Dont mean to scare anyone but cramping is not always a good thing..as I found out unfortunatley.

Hi! i have PCOS. had fgone thru clomid. I’ve just gone thru an IUI last Friday. My husband and I are hoping this would be the moment for us to finally have a baby/ babies after a 5-year wait. Right now, I am experiencing on-and-off (SEVERE) cramping which has a similar feeling that I get before every menstruation. I was alarmed about it and decided to call my doctor if I could take any medicine. His nurse said Ibuprofen would be fine and that I should rest and take care of myself.
It’s just so hard not to stress about not being able to work (since i’m the “main” bread winner). i’m glad to find out though that i am not alone in the cramping dilema.

Okay, this article and responses from everyone has really made me feel a ittle better about my cramping. A few years ago I became pregnant and sadly a week later was in the ER after really bad cramping. I just found out about a week ago that I was pregnant…took about four HPT and all were positive but very faint. I went to the doctor the same day and had a boold test came back as 19 HCG, so I am very early about 3 weeks. I took another test Friday and off coarse have to wait the long weekend to hear the results. I have been praying every night and morning for the safety of my baby. I have taken another HPT and the line is a lot darker. I have been experiancing light cramping and my fears and anxiety are through the roof. I am trying to relax and drink lots of water. I have had no spotting so that is a wonderful sign. This is unexpected but I arleady have so much love for my baby and look forward to the pregnancy to come. some advice Ican give other ladies is to stay postive. Stress is not a good thing in pregnancy so staying positive and trying to keep the stress levels low is great. Wish me luck I will updater as soon as I find out the results from the last blood tests.

I am 24 yrs old and just found out my husband and I are expecting our first baby. I’m about 3 weeks pregnant. I have been experiencing cramping just like the rest of you. Mainly like period cramps. I’m a little nervous b/c my dr told me that cramps usually mean a threatened miscarriage. But most women I know (my sister with 3 kids included) have experienced cramping as well and have had completely healthy pregnancies. So now my dr wants me to come in tomorrow for a sonogram. To check on things. Me and my hubby are so excited for this pregnancy. It bothers me to think something could be wrong. I guess I will find out tomorrow. Wish me luck, and congrats to you all!

I have been pregnant before (my son is almost 3). I am not due for my period until the end of this week…so in just 3 days. Last week on Thursday I threw up for no reason (I never do that) and I have felt some nausea each day since then. I also have some lower back pain….it’s tolerable….not bad.
I am not much of a patient person so I have taken a couple tests but not saying positive. I know I should have waited to take them. I am just too anxious to find out. LoL
I feel like I am getting my period…BUT, I NEVER EVER feel like this so long before my period starts. I usually only start cramping the day I start. Sometimes after I start. So this is new to me. I am hoping it’s not my period coming….I secretly have been wanting a baby for so long now.
My boyfriend does not want a baby right now, but I know that he will be a good dad if I am pregnant. The reason he doesn’t want one right now is because he has a deployment coming up next year.
I am not doing anything different to try to get pregnant….we are only “pulling out” ….no condoms, etc.
Anyways, this lower back pain could be caused by something else, but I remember having slight back pain with my other pregnancy.
Good luck to all you ladies!

Hello All!
I have read all of the posts on here-congrats to all
I’m so happy for you!!
My husband and I have been married for almost seven months and are not really trying to have a baby at the moment (although we would be thrilled if we did)!
I am on birth control..for the past five days, I have been experiencing bloating and mild cramps in my lower abdomen. Also, my lower back is very sore, and I have been more hungry than normal. These are usually signs of when I am on my period, but that is still a week and a half away…I have never, ever had these symptoms this far in advance.
I have never been pregnant, so I am not exactly sure what is going on with my body. Something feels quite different though, I can’t really explain it…
I took a pregnancy test two days ago, which came out negative. I guess I have to wait and see if my period does indeed come.
I am just impatient and wanted to see what you all thought. It sounds like many of you had had similar symptoms and were pregnant.

Lisa, i hope everything turned out okay. I took a HPT on Thursday and it came out positive. I have a three yr old. We’ve been waiting so long for this baby and was completely unexpected. I was sure I was getting my period from the cramping I was feeling. In a way, I still expect it to come. The cramps are just like menstrual cramps. I have been feeling cramping since before my period was due and still am. The article has reassured me quite a bit. Trying to stay positive. I had a MC in Oct, 2008 and the cramping really scares me. My Dr.’s appt isn’t for another 2 weeks, but wonder if I shouldn’t go in sooner, just to confirm the test. I might take the second HPT that came in the box. Best wishes to all of you.
Ariel says...
By the way, the water definitely helps. I remember I felt cramps with my first pregnancy after standing /walking a lot. It helped to sit down and drinking water also helped. I just don’t remember the cramps feeling like menstrual cramps…

Last week i miscarried at 5 weeks pregnant. I started out spotting brown blood that turned into bright red blood. I started having bad lower back pain, like I would get right before a period. I went to the bathroom and passed a small sack that I assume was the baby along with several clots. I proceded to bleed for about 4 days. Now, a week later I am having cramping, bloating, nausea, and tender breasts. I am wondering if it is possible to have actually not miscarried and still be pregnant. OR could I have had been pregnant with twins and lost one? Has anyone experienced anything like this?

Sometimes cramping can be due to UTI – if you get your AF then get checked out for this with the OBGYN.

Hi there,
I came looking for info on cramping. I am 5 weeks after 8 years of trying. I had blood in my discharge after a pee earlier this afternoon. None since – is this normal? I am cramping and very tired, but don’t feel sick at all. Do any of you experience a girggling in your abdomin? Really worried, since it has taken 8 years and trying to stay relaxed. So excited and so fearful at the same time. Any advice would be very appreciated.

I also need to add there was no brown in the blood, just red, is brown normal???

Hey,
I have a syndrome called polycystic ovarian syndromw… for those who have not heard of it it is a disease that effects a womens ability to ovualte.. and much more but i am about 5 weeks pregnant, and i too have been having cramping not bad just annoying. With my first i never had that. so i am a little concerned but my doctor has told me numerous times that it is normal to have that because of the baby moving into the uterous, and water for me really does help as well as walking around.
As for the miscarriage with twins i have had 2sets of twins, my first set was a boy and a girl at 6 1/2 months pregnant i lost my girl… BUT my son was fine he is 4 1/2 today. 6months ago i miscarried had a dnc … a week after my dnc i found i was still pregnant but not in a good way.. one baby had made it to the uterus and the other was stuck in my tube. It is VERY possible to have twins misscarry 1 and still have another for i have expierenced it two times. And for all the women with poly cystic my heart goes out to you all… i was onl diagnosed 2 years ago an didnt reaize all the effects it really has.. women with pcos have a high chance of misscarriage and chances of still born, But as my dr said you have to look at the brighter side if you dont you will never get better and your stress levels will rise. My advice to everyone.. even though the cramping can suck you have to think positivley, for you and your child. Positive attitude positive results., And anything is possible like i said i have pcos and only one ovary due to medical malpractice, And where there is a will there is a way, i found that out. please keep your ehads up! talk to people to reassure yourself but dont overwhelm yourself. Hey Girls. My husband and I have been trying to conceive for about 6 months now. This will be my first pregnancy, so I really don’t know how my body would react to actually being pregnant. I’m not supposed to start my period for another 6 days but lately I have been having dull cramps and a lot of lower back pains. My breasts are only moderatly sore- not too much more than normal. I want to test as soon as I can, but I’m also scared that it will just come out negative if I test too soon. Hubby and I have been married 3 years and I have wanted a baby ever since then. I can only cross my fingers that these may be signs that I’m pregnant!
Lots of luck to you TTC ladies and pregnant ladies too!

I started cramping about a week after ovulation and it was almost constant and very minimal. I spotted once about 8 days after ovulation and then nothing until 5 days later. Since then I have been spotting on and off for the last 4 days with a my cramping getting a little more strong. I had my first positive pregnancy test two days ago, 14 days after ovulating. Tests before that were negative. I called my ob and they said spotting was normal and they didn’t need to see me for almost 3 weeks until I’m closer to 7 weeks. I’m not sure that I mentioned on the phone that I’ve also had cramping and it intensified yesterday but I am afraid to call back this early. Any advice?

According to my LMP, I am exactly 5 weeks pregnant today (3 weeks since conception). For the past few days, I have been experiencing moderate to severe cramping in my lower abdomen. Today, however, the cramping has increased and is associated with light to regular bleeding…not heavy but more like it would be during the middle of my period. I visited my dr. today and he took a blood test to see what my hCG level is. Last week, it was at 87. If it is still at 87 or lower, I am experiencing a miscarriage. If it has tripled in number since then, I am fine or at the very worst, may be experiencing a threatened miscarriage. With my first pregnancy, I experienced spotting throughout my first trimester and part of my second but never this cramping. I’m scared but trying to stay positive. I hope I’m still pregnant…I still feel pregnant…in fact, I feel more and more pregnant each day. We’ll see. I’m nervous as all heck…

I have been having serious cramps since 2 days after my BFP. What I found surprising was the little information out there on how to manage this. I did come across this though from the March of Dimes website
What You Can Do
When you feel abdominal achiness, sit down, put your feet up and relax. Resting comfortably should quickly relieve your symptoms.
Other tips:
Avoid quick changes in position, especially turning sharply at the waist.
When you do feel a pain, bend toward the pain to relieve it.
Walking, doing light housework or changing position may help relieve gas pains.
Put a hot water bottle wrapped in a towel or a heating pad on the lowest setting on your belly.
Take a warm bath or shower.
Make sure you are getting enough fluids.

Hi all, like most of you I have been getting mild cramping in my very lower abdomen area, along with tender breasts and some light spotting. I had my coil removed on Nov 9th, my husband and I are TTC, I’m convinced because of these symptoms that I’m pregnant but 2 hpt have been negative, I’m hoping this is because I’m in tune with my body and that it’s just a little too early to tell! Melanie’s symptoms sound very similar to mine and she is pregnant, fingers crossed for me! I could only be a couple of weeks gone, I’ve a little way to go yet! Hello ladies. I see there are many women here that’s in the same boat as I am with some differences. Some with bleeding or without, little or alot of cramping in the days and/or nights too, drinking water that may or may not help. I understand each one of us is different so it’s hard to know what best for you.. I have enjoyed reading these posts very much and they had comforted me to know that I’m not the only one because I had never hear of anyone going through this before even myself when I had my 5 other children. Now I’m older and is having the cramps like never before, not even when I had my period. But 5 weeks ago I started to have the cramps very lightly with sore breasts, tireness, and back pain that all very mild. But a day later I had the worst cramps even which I never do much around my period. But then the bleeding started a day later and it was like a nornal period just not at the time I expected it (3 days long). I did take a HPT which was negative but now the period has passed for over 2 week and I am still having these cramps (and gas) that feels like my period is still coming only it’s not with some tension that comes and goes. Lately they are worse at night and I can’t sleep good. I visited my doctor and asked for a test which she said she would do but hasn’t just others instead. I have another appointment on Jan 27 but that’s too long to wait. I think she’s not convinced because I haven’t missed a period yet. So I will take another HPT. I can’t really tell by my period because I’m post menpause and the cycle is changing making my periods coming about 3-4 weeks apart. I’ll check and will update you.

Hey ladies… I’m 6 1/2 weeks pregnant and have been getting severe period like cramps throughout the day and during the night for 2 weeks. I’ve been to the ER three times and have had 2 ultrasounds done, both of which told me i was to early to tell anything. Blood work is going up as normal but these cramps are horrible. Anyone have any advice as to whether these are going to go away or stay throughout the whole pregnancy?!?

I have done home pregnancy tests that say I’m pregnant. I have a doctors appointment scheduled. I am 5 weeks along. I have had light to moderate cramping up until tonight when I woke up with severe cramps. I was in a lot of pain for about 20 minutes, and then it let up. I was super worried about an etopic pregnancy or that I was going to miscarry, but reading about all of your experiences has put my mind at a little ease. Thanks!

These posts have reassured me that I am not crazy. I think I am 5 weeks along, but the HPT was negative. Saw my doctor today for the blood test and I am on pins and needles waiting until next week for the results. I just started cramping yesterday and have not had a period for over 3 months, so I am afraid it is just a period. But I have been having nausea, dizziness, really bad indigestion, heartburn, and strange pains in my lower abdomen for the past 3 weeks. Everything started 8 days after having sex. Some people say that these symptoms could be from stress, but I’ve never had them from stress ever, and I am almost 40 yrs old.
I did not have any cramps or nausea w/ my first pregnancy, but that was over 10 years ago. I really hope I am pregnant, but my bf goes on deployment in a couple weeks, so if so, I will be doing this on my own. I’m keeping my fingers crossed. At my age any pregnancy is welcomed.

I have been having small dull cramps over the last few weeks. I have been pregnant before but the only symptom I had was nausea. This time I have none just mild cramping and constipation. I took a test but it said negative yet I am still really stressed. I have used protection. Is it at all possible that I could be pregnant?!?! Please help I can’t be pregnant again!!!

Any advise welcome..my sister has been for a scan this morning and was told that the “baby is big” she is only 10 wks gone, she is now in such a state worrying that there is something wrong and they are bringing her 12wk scan forward, she is definite with her dates and knows exactly when she conceived,so does a big baby necessarily mean problems? she is frantic & trying to get in touch with her midwife..please help.Thanks.

SUE,
I wouldn’t worr about the baby being big. I have had 2 children, lost 3 and had an ectopic which exploded in my fallopian tube resulting in me losing my tube altogether!
If your sisters baby is BIG, she may well be futher along than she thinks. My first baby was by the books from conception to birth. My second, however, was a nightmare. First she was too small, then she was too big, she didnt move enough, she moved too much bla bla bla. All pregnancys are different. But the way you look after yourself make sa difference. I ate a lot of oranges and fish and my baby was HUGE. I had to have a C Section (i am only 112 LBs)
I am sure your sisters baby is absolutly fine, maybe a big bouncing baby boy is on route lol…x

I am probably about 7 weeks maybe more cuz my last period was only like a day long. I have been cramping like crazy and i deffinitely dont remember cramping with my first child so im just getting reasurrance that im not having another miscarriage. I drink tons of water exercise and rest too still i cramp. I think stressing on it makes it worse and i am trying to make it go out of my mind! thank u all for the good advice!

I just to a HPT and had a faint positive line. I having moderate cramping at night, breast/ nipple tenderness, and vomiting throughout the day. This is my first pregnancy and I have a list of female problems and am scared of miscarriage. I took clomid for 1 month and am not pregnant. Is this type of cramping normal??
Amanda says...
OKAY… I was just lookin’ around and saw 2 years worth of postings on cramping and read the article and I am happy to say that I am cramping!!! I am 4 weeks and 4 days pregnant and have had on and off cramping. This is such a welcome sign after 3 IVF attempts untold tries naturally over the last 8 years. I am excited and bewildered and scared and weeepy and any other emotion that you can have while getting used to the idea of being a first time mom. Congratulations to everyone and I wish you all well…

I had unprotected sex 3 times on the last day of my period. (the 15th of January) Although he did pull out each time, I still have that guy intuition that I am pregnant. Ive been getting terrible gas and cramps below my belly button, and although I don’t have any other symtoms, I still have that gut feeling. I have to pee alot, but it does vary. My boobs arent sore but they do look a little brown, the gas is the main thing though. IS this normal? Might I be pregnant?
