I am 33 weeks pregnant with my 5th child and will be delivering via scheduled c-section. My first child was 8 weeks premature and had not dropped into the birth canal so I had to have a c-section and the other 3 were scheduled as this one will be. My first was pretty scary just not knowing what was going to happen but after that I was well prepared and everything went very smoothly. My advice to anyone having a c-section is get up and start walking as soon as they'll allow you. The sooner you walk the easier it'll be. Also, it helps get that gas out and trust me, the gas pains I experienced after my second c-section were unbareable and I literally thought I was dying! Don't try to do everything yourself and take it easy. The hardest thing for me was not being able to lift my older children for a few weeks especially after my husband went back to work. Occasionally I feel like I missed out not getting to deliver naturally but I'm happy to have 4 beautiful healthy children and number 5 on the way!

I had an emergency c-section with my first @ 28 weeks due to developing preeclampsia. The healing process and all was no different from any other surgery I have had, so it was no big deal. I am 38 days away from having my second via c-section and was given the choice of that or vaginal. I am personally afraid to have it naturally and was with my son as well.

I had my first one naturally, 51 hours of labor, and they still had to use the forecepts and vaccuum twice to get him out. 5lbs 14 oz. and I needed an epidural. And I required 27 stitches. Second one was natural as well no drugs 32 min from start to finish. 7 lbs 8 oz, third was an emergency c-section, I hemmoraged and he was choking on the blood. So he HAD to come out then. 6 lbs 7.5oz I am currently expecting #4 and have already opted for a c-section. Whether or not it is needed. I think it is all personal opinion as to how each woman would like to have her baby(ies) and what her body is able to handle. If your body cant handle the birthing process or there is some medical emergecny...and baby has to come via c-section, just be thankful that baby made it. =)

Really? who cares as long as baby is healthy I had an emergency csection with my first an a scheduled with my second personally I think some ladies are mad cus they have to push that huge thing outta a tiny hole lol um no thanks I'd rather not, as far as I'm concerned it's probly more stressfull on a baby to go through hours of labour then to just be taken out easily an calmly, me an my kids have bonded great why someone would say they were depressed about how they deliver makes me wonder how sane you are in the first place right? So seriously I'v had csections I havent broken the law its a personal choice for women so worry about yourselves an not how I had my children!!! psycho's

I had to have an emergency c section with my first child, after pushing for 3 hours (at my insistence) and having had a failed ventouse after everything I was just glad my baby boy was delivered safe and sound. I was gutted, however that that final part had been robbed from me and said from the start that with the next one I would have a VBAC, since then I have had a consultation and have been told my pelvis is too narrow and that I should 'bail' next time and go for a c section.
I would really like to get a second opinion though as I want nothing more than to be able to deliver a child myself. Has anyone been told they couldn't have a VBAC but done it anyway?

Statistically, it is much safer to have a vaginal delivery (risk of infection, bleeding etc.) so I am concerned if people are being led to believe otherwise. If you can delivery vaginally, it is much better for you and baby. Having said that I do know that isn't always possible. I had to have 2 c-sections--first emergency and second planned (we learned I would not be able to deliver vaginally due to pelvic structure). I remember the most difficult thing for me was the disconnect of being pregnant and then being told I had a baby, which I didn't see bc they quickly took him away to check him and then having to wait 30 minutes while they stitched me up before I could properly hold him. That was very difficult for me. So yes, I am thankful for medicine and for the fact that a c-section was done, but I also appreciate and understand when women are sad or disappointed not having a vaginal delivery.

I had my first csection in 2006 with my daughter. I was only in labour with her for 45mins when I was told she had the cord around her neck and her heart beat was dangerously slowing hence they put me under and when I woke up - there she was. I have to admit from what I remember I was in a lot of pain from the csection but then I haven't had a natural birth! The incision did unfortunately become infected and therefore I was in hospital for a total of 6days and it took approx 7weeks for it to completely heal. I am expecting my second in just over a month and to be completely honest I am too frightened to even try a natural birth even though I would love to and can't imagine anything ever being as so rewarding. But I ended up opting for an elective csection. Not because I am "too posh to push" because I certainly am not, but because I am worried I will not be able to do it. I am a small-framed girl weighing only 7st and a size 4-6. My midwife said I can try a VBAC but it will most likely end up being a csection. I am worried about the aftermath of the surgery but I am more excited to meet my first son whether delivered naturally or by csection that doesn't really matter to me.

I had my first C-section in 2000, after 16 hours of labor with no progression in dilation. My daughter's heartbeat couldn't be found so I was gassed and put under. She was delivered jaundiced, but otherwise fine. I spent a week in the hospital because my uterus and incision became infected. I suspect it was because of the speed with which the surgery was done. I'm not complaining if they had to cut a few corners to get her out safely. My second was in 2006. I had planned a VBAC but at 38 weeks I developed severe preeclampsia and decided that waiting for a manual induction to work was too risky. My blood pressure was barely being controlled. The second was far easier to recover from, with much less discomfort and bleeding than the first. I am having my third on June 8.
