Nicholas was our much loved and wanted first baby and we had so many hopes and dreams for him, we will miss him forever and we hope he knows how much we love him, even though we never got to tell him. Not a second goes by where we don't miss him and not a day goes by where we don't shed a tear. We had imagined and were looking forward to watching him play with his half-brother and 2 half-sisters, now we watch them play without him. We will never get to watch our son grow, what would he look like? What sort of person would he be? Who would he be most like. He had his Mummy's mouth but everything else about him was his Daddy - he had his Daddy's ears and he had the same colour hair as his youngest half-sister when she was born.
Nicholas took a piece of his Mummy and Daddy with him when he went and we hope he keeps it safe until we meet again.
At Nicholas' funeral we had book marks printed with the following on the back:
Dear Nicholas,
You were carried in hope for many long months. We often felt you kick and move as slowly you grew within. We wondered what you would look like when your wet head emerged. Girl or Boy?, and at what glad moment we should hear your birth cry. And us welcoming you with all your needs, we had a home waiting for you.
You came. You did not cry! You did not breathe. We had not expected this. It seems your birth had no meaning. or had you rejected us?
They will say you did not live, registered you as stillborn. But you lived for us all the time in the dark chamber of Mummy's womb. And when we think of you now, perfect in your little death we know that for us you are born still. We shall carry you with us forever, our child, you were always ours, You are ours now.
Love always, Mummy and Daddy
