Update 2006 Time sure flies! And children sure grow! Rhiannon and Hayley turned 5 in January! Both girls are still petite in size but growing more and more everyday. At their 5 year appointment, the pediatrician and I decided that the girls should be seen by an ENT to have their tonsils and adenoids checked. They were sent for their first xray and both did a great job! It was quite interesting to see an xray of their heads! They saw the ENT near the end of March and he suggested they both have their tonsils and adenoids removed (due to the enlarged tonsils obstructing their airways when they breathe, and at night causing excessive snoring!). Their scheduled surgery took place on April 18th, and both girls are now on the mend. Hayley had a bit more difficult time after surgery causing her to "throw up" for 2 days. I've have concluded it was a combination of things causing this: she did not feel/sleep well the night before surgery, she had some type of reaction to the anethesia, and she was excessively congested, leading her sinus drainage to her tummy...thus causing upset stomach! After a prescription to relieve the nausea, she ate and drank like a champ! Both girls are still complaining a bit of a sore throat (or neck, as Hayley calls it!), but should be 100% in the near future. Hayley had the misfortune of slamming her left hand ring finger in the side garage door at Grandma and Grandpa's at the beginning of March, causing her to fracture the tip of her finger. She was a trooper though and was more concerned that I was going to be scared than she was of her finger actually hurting (I was at home at the time of the incident!). I rushed right over and took her to urgent care, where we of course, waited a couple of hours (luckily in an exam room) until she was able to be seen by the xray tech (who just so happened to go on a lunch break when we were called in)and the fracture was confirmed by the doctor on staff. She was given a temporary splint and was seen by her pediatrician on Monday (the mishap happened on a Friday afternoon)who at that time gave her a permanent splint for the week and then was able to "buddy wrap" the finger the following week. Her little nail did not fall off as the doctors suspected but a brand new nail is growing and pushing the damaged nail up and she should have a brand new nail in the near future. The girls will be starting a preschool program through the local high school on May 2nd (they were supposed to start April 20th...but due to surgery were unable to) through the end of May. They will go Tuesday and Thursday's from 9:30 to 2:15. I don't really think it has sunk in that they actually get to go to "school." I am anticipating they will enjoy going and will not have any anxiety. We registered the girls for Kindergarten in March and they were so excited they wanted to start that day. They were so upset when we told them they would have to wait until the fall. They have a kindergarten assessment at the end of May and will start school around August 24th. That's it for now....I will update more in the future!
