Infant Development & Milestones Week 30

Your 30 Week Old Baby
A Parent's Guide to Infants

What's New For Infants

Most children and adults get the occasional ear infection. These can be caused by several things, including bacteria in the ear and teething. If you think your baby has an ear infection, call your doctor. He can prescribe medication for your baby that will help clear up the infection.

How do you know if it is an infection? If ever in doubt be sure to ask! Some of the more common signs include your baby pulling on his ear. Some babies will scratch at it, or hit it. If your baby seems abnormally cranky and is running a high fever, it could be from an infection. Ear infections can be most common while your child is teething, so it is definitely something you should discuss with your doctor at your baby's next visit.

Your baby has probably learned a new game or she just learned how to play along with one of your old ones. Your baby's motor skills are becoming developed enough for her to play peek-a-boo with you. She will probably cover her eyes, look at you, and laugh. She might even mumble something that sounds like "peek-a-boo".

What Might Concern You at 30 Weeks

If you are breastfeeding, you might be noticing a new "sensation", when you nurse. Now that your baby probably has a couple of teeth, and is learning how to chew and bite, you might be feeling a little nibble.

While this might be cute the first couple of times you baby nibbles, when he actually bites it will hurt. If you laugh he will think it is ok so it is best not to let that happen from the beginning. The best way to break your baby of what can become a habit is to detach him from your breast and firmly tell him "No, that hurt", or "We don't bite". After a few times of your firm voice, the baby should understand, and should stop biting.
